Sigma Pi

i think its worth putting that Romo was a member of Sigma Pi at Eastern Illinois University. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CrazySaxMan06 (talkcontribs) 23:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Basketball

Romo also had a great basketball career in high school. This should be covered 66.90.150.79 19:45, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage

If Mr. Romo's grandfather immigrated to America, then that would make Tony a "second" generation Mexican-American, not a "third" generation Mexican-American as described in the text. In this case, the descendant of the immigrant (Tony's father) would be a first generation Mexican-American, which in turns would make Tony Romo a second generation Mexican-American. The mistake made in the text is very common to the unschooled. One can however, refer to Tony Romo as a "third generation immigrant" without making any mistake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rakuchina (talkcontribs) 06:54, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to the latest issue of ESPN Deportes magazine (12/07), Romo is Mexican. They don't cover non-Latino athletes, so it's probably pretty safe to say that the guy is at least half-Mexican. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ericxpenner (talkcontribs) 22:29, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree. His grandfather was 100% Mexican and immigrated into the US. His father (born in the US) was a First Generation Mexican American. Tony is a Second Generation Mexican American (not Third). Can someone correct the text? It's locked. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.216.74.2 (talk) 15:27, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enough with the "H"'s

Some moron thinks it would be funny to change "Romo" to "lamo". Real original there.

I know there are some automated anti-vandal programs (at least, I see them reverting edits with the F-word and similar). Can we nominate this article to be protected by an automated 'bot? Of course this is pending the decision below on whether TonyHomo.com is an encyclopedic link. - PhilipR 05:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just A Quarterback?

Quick question here, is Romo also the holder during a FG attempt? Duh no. He can't kick a ball.

They are referring to TonyHomo.com, if you are in the dark on this one. Still, it is not appropriate. Let Drew Bledsoe's 3889 career completions and 251 touchdown passes, plus a Hall of Fame bid, do the talking.

He was last year but couldn't hold the ball during a playoff game, causing his team to lose and resulting in him no long being the holder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.32.249.82 (talk) 07:32, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect. He's no longer the holder because he's the starting quarterback to start the year, not because of what happened at Seattle. He was only holding because Bledsoe (the backup QB at that time) had never done it before. Johnson holds this year because he's the backup.Kirobaito 01:34, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Antonio Trivia

As a high school player, Romo finished second to Caron Butler [now of the Washington Wizards] in the 1998 Mr. Basketball voting [Wisconsin].

?Where is the source for this? ALl other Internet sources for Wisconsin Mr. Basketball list Jose Winston as 98 WI Mr. Basketball. Nothing on Caron Butler's personal bio, either here or on nba.com, list him as ever having won the award. It's even less likely that Romo finished second, as he was only honorable mention for his own district team. His team never even managed a winning season. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.84.149.64 (talk) 00:00, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's not. The announcers one Cowboys game were joking around about Romo having a celebrity crush on Jessica Simpson, how anyone can mistake that for dating, I don't know. He's not dating her and there is no sources to back that up, so you were right in deleting that.--aviper2k7 01:32, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, he isn't, but it has been rumored that she has shown interest in going on a date with him. It was in the local newspaper. It's just a rumor though. Nothing more. cerebralshrike 07:57, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who the hell keeps putting Tony Romo as an Italian American? The guy's a Mexican and German. His grandparents came from Mexico. Which makes him American. Idiot people need to do research before posting!! How many Italians out there are named Ramiro??

QB rating

Shouldn't some one mention he has a 148.9 QB rating?

QBR for a single game isn't really worth mentioning, especially since many NFL fans consider it an inaccurate representation of skill. --NEMT 23:04, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Drew Bledsoe once had a 337.2 quarterback rating in a single game. Odd, seeing as how most NFL quarterbacks seemingly can't exceed 158.3!

It's impossible to have a rating above 158.3. See passer rating for the full explanation.Benq31 06:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They can go over 158.3, but they only record it 158.3 for some reason. Like if you throw 15-15, 200 yds, 3 TD, 0 Int, you get 205.7 or some rating on calc. But for some reason, you only get recorded as 158.3.

If your calculation exceeds 158.3 you've used the wrong passer rating ( prehaps you've used the college PR which has no parameters —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.15.153.255 (talk) 20:47, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quincy Carter cocaine allegations

This needs to be cited. Last I knew it was not public knowledge exactly what drugs Carter was using and under what circumstances he was kicked off the team. There's no mention of it in Carter's article either so if it is verifiable then it needs to be cited here and added to the Quincy Carter article. If it's not verifiable, it needs to be deleted.

I don't see the point of talking about Carters cocaine allegations on Romos wikipedia anyway. That part of Quincy Carter should be stated on Carters and Carters only. ETod09 21:57, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Henson / Bledsoe

Romo had a strong showing in the 2006 pre-season, especially when compared to Drew Henson's performance

This sentence was edited (I'm too lazy to find it) to change Henson to Bledsoe. Reading Henson's bio, it seems pretty clear the original intent was to say that Romo edged out Henson for the backup role in the 2006 preseason. But obviously it could plausibly be meant to indicate bledsoe. I marked it with {{fact}} because I'd rather see it replaced with a factual, verifiable comparison so that there wouldn't be any doubt which Drew was intended. - Cheers, PhilipR 01:09, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If memory serves correctly, Drew Henson never played a down in the 2006 pre-season. So that statement should be re-worded in some way. Cerebralshrike

This is a pretty well known piece of NFL satire, should it be included in the external links section? I've seen it added and removed a few times, let's try to reach a consensus. --NEMT 22:32, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, here's a starting point: What existing WP guidelines exist for whether a link on a topic is encyclopedic or appropriate for an article? I can envision some cases where a satirical site would be considered appropriate, but not every player lampoon site that comes along. Researching, I find that Links normally to be avoided tells us to avoid "11. Links to personal websites, including blogs and anonymous websites or webpages, except those allowed by policy (see WP:V)". Following on, the verifiability guideline has to do with factual verifiability; this implicitly suggests that satire blogs aren't excluded from item 11 unless they also provide some sort of authoritative facts on the subject.
I guess my question to anyone who wants to see this link preserved would be: What distinguishes this site from all the other fansites for Drew Bledsoe or Tony Romo or whomever? I'm open to being convinced that it has some unique value but I don't see too much latitude in WP guidelines to put in satire links just because the site is "pretty well known" or has a memorable domain name, or for that matter just because it's funny. I'm treading lightly though because I enjoy satire sites and am not sure if I want to make an argument leading to the conclusion that satirical links are always out of place on WP - PhilipR 23:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, Drew Bledsoe has 3889 career completions and 251 touchdown passes. He should be in everybody's wikipedia entry, not just Antonio Romo's.

The blog was ended with a post after the playoff game. 67.42.113.170 01:35, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Wisconsin

On 11/30/06 I added that he was from Wisconsin (in Categories), which has since been removed (couldn't track down exact instance). Tony moved to Burlington, WI at age two where he remained until he left for college. I believe his family continues to reside there. If he is factually not "from" Wisconsin in some shape or form, can someone point me to the policy stating how "from" is defined. Otherwise, I propose it be added back in. stainofmind 08:33, 23 March 2007

"Tony Romo Rule" and fumbled snap vs Seattle

Reading the section on the fumbled snap vs Seattle I see no mention of the condition of the ball. Fumbled snap play correction

This article is locked but needs edit: the snap play ended with Romo tackled short of the 1 yard line - which is important - as it should also be further clarified that reaching the 1 would have been a first down. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kemurph (talkcontribs) 06:25, August 27, 2007 (UTC) d

Favre's Influence

Romo is being compared to Brett Favre in style of play: "And Tony Romo has proven he's no flash in the pan. In fact, Romo's style of play and throwing motion reminds me of Favre. His ability to buy time and stay upright under pressure is uncanny." - Rich Eisen at NFL.com." With comments like these, I thought it was important to mention in the article Favre's influence on Romo. Romo grew up in Wisconsin a Packers' fan, and Green Bay and Favre's rise to greatness happened when Romo was in High School. (His freshman year, Green Bay lost in the second round of the playoffs... to Dallas, his sophomore year, Green Bay lost in the NFC Championship game to Dallas. His junior and senior years, Green Bay went to the Super Bowl. Favre won MVP Romo's sophomore, junior, and senior years. Romo would watch Favre intently on Sundays, and then go out and play on Fridays. (Later, while playing for Eastern Illinois, Romo would go to Chicago Green Bay games in Illinois to see his idol. I think this was at the time Soldier Field was being renovated, and the Bears were playing in Champaign.) 69.215.147.34 12:19, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think Favre's influence is over-stated. Romo was a fan of many quarterbacks growing up. It doesn't appear that he was influenced by Favre more than any other quarterbacks while he grew up in Wisconsin. See article(http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=690251) 131.107.0.73 (talk) 22:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly doesn't need that much coverage. Romo is good because he is, not because he liked Brett Favre.►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Romo was anything but a Favre fan. He grew up a 49ers fan. See article (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5337574.html) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.55.21.141 (talk) 02:06, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Romo himself says he was a Montana fan, and an Elway fan (says he rooted for Elway AGAINST the packers in the 97 SB.

And why is that in a wiki anyway? I don't see anything in Favre's wiki about Favre watching Rich Campbell as a youngster.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.210.33.75 (talk) 05:05, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2006

The article says "Romo first saw the field on October 1st. [2006]" Maybe I'm being picky here, but people always talk like he stood on the sideline holding the clipboard until he became the starter. In fact, he held on field goals all year and was on the field for that before being the starter. (I'm sure he could also "see" the field from the sideline, too.) 68.77.192.74 02:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If there's a factually untrue statement in the article, which the one you pasted is, then you have two options: 1) change the date to be the first time he actually appeared in an NFL game; or 2) change the sentence to specifically the first time he played on offense, or as a starter, or whatever.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can't change anything, because the article is protected. 69.215.141.36 12:20, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Just" South of Burlington?

The author probably means Michael Jackson, IL is just south of Champaign, IL (home of the University of IL). While Charleston is definitely south of Burlington, it is hardly "just" south. It's not clear if the author was trying to give a geographic point of reference for EIU, or a reference to EIU relative to Romo's hometown. Craignelson70007 18:45, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2007 Update

During the Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills, Not only did Romo become the third Cowboy to throw 5 interceptions in a single game, he broke the cowboy record for the most 300+ yard passing games in one season. His overall stats were 5 Interceptions, 1 Lost Fumble, 2 Touchdown passes, and 309 Yards Passing. Most of his passing yards came after his 5th interception (3rd Quarter), proving that Romo is capable of overcoming huge hurdles; leading his team to an eventual win.

Whoever keeps changing my edits to his 2007 season is putting a positive spin on his play in the divisional game against the Giants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Snarlinmonsta (talkcontribs) 22:41, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Record-setting loss.

On Monday, September 21, 2009, in front of a record-setting crowd at the new Cowboys Stadium, costing over $1 billion, Romo led his team to a 33-31 loss to the rival New York Giants, led by former Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. Romo was outplayed by Manning, who doubled Romo's completions, yards, yards per completion, and touchdowns while throwing no interceptions to Romo's three. Romo's passer rating in the game was a dismal 29.6, thus continuing the team's tradition as an overpaid (the Cowboys are in fact the highest paid sport franchise in North America) soap opera consisting of choke artists.

Enought cannot be said about how much time and hype went into this game, being that it was the first game played in the new stadium. Among the crowd were LeBron James, George W. Bush, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irving, John Madden, and Pat Summerall, who witnessed such videos as one showing the mid-field emblem being transferred from Texas Stadium via outer-space. There were also clips shown comparing the stadium to an Egyptian pyramid and the Roman Colosseum. Romo had commented earlier that he expected the stadium to give the team "an incredible home-field advantage."

[1][1] [2][2]

2009 Season

In the Cowboys' second game of the season, their first at their new billion-dollar home, Romo had an uncharacteristically poor performance for a quarterback of his experience, throwing 3 interceptions and numerous poorly thrown incomplete passes. It was maybe perhaps the worst performance of his career to date, and he vowed in a television interview after the game to do better. Mukanil (talk) 17:47, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All Time Leader Dallas Cowboys Touchdown Passes

This page needs to be amended now that Tony Romo is the all time leader in touchdown passes for the Dallas Cowboys.

On December 2nd, 2012 in a Sunday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Tony Romo through 3 touchdown passes to pass Troy Aikman as the alltime touchdown leader for Dallas.

As of today, he has 168 touchdown passes, to Troy Aikman's 165. For completeness, Danny White is 3rd with 155 and Roger Staubach is 4th with 153.
