Despicable Me 2 is a 2013 American 3D computer-animated adventure comedy film and the sequel to the 2010 animated film Despicable Me. Produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures, it will be directed again by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, and written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Steve Carell, Russell Brand, and Miranda Cosgrove reprises their roles. Kristen Wiig, who played Miss Hattie in the first film, voices agent Lucy Wilde. New cast members include Benjamin Bratt as Eduardo and Steve Coogan as Silas Ramsbottom, head of the Anti-Villain League. The film is scheduled to be released on July 3, 2013.[2]
A spin-off film Minions, focusing mainly on Gru's yellow henchmen before they have met, is set to be released on December 19, 2014.[5]
Plot
Gru (Steve Carrell) is no longer a villain, since saving his three adopted daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes from Vector in the first film (Despicable Me). But his calm and unexciting new life takes an unexpected turn in which he meets Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) which she asks him to come with her. Gru refuses, but Lucy tasers him and is taken to the headquarters of the Anti-Villain League, a society dedicated to fighting crime on a global scale. There he discovers that there is a new villain called Eduardo on the loose and because Gru was once a villain himself and knows how they think, Silas Ransbottom (who is the League's head), wants Gru to help them fight Eduardo. With the help of Gru's assistant, Dr. Nefario (Russell Brand), his minions, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, Gru must save the world (again).

- Steve Coogan as Silas Ramsbottom, the head of the Anti-Villain League[2][10]
- Ken Jeong as TBA[11]
- Miranda Cosgrove as Margo, the oldest of the three girls and the most reasonable.[2]
- Dana Gaier as Edith, the middle child[12]
- Elsie Fisher as Agnes, the youngest child[13]
- Moisés Arias as Antonio[14]
Production
Chris Meledandri said in July 2010 that a sequel is in the works.[15] It is tentatively scheduled for release on July 3, 2013.[16] Miranda Cosgrove stated on her official Facebook and Twitter page on October 14, 2011 that she had recorded her first lines,[17] while Meledandri confirmed in February 2012 that they started animating the film.[18]
In February 2012, it was reported that Al Pacino had joined the cast to voice the villain, Eduardo.[19] In April 2012, it was confirmed that Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier and Elsie Fisher are returning to reprise their roles. Kristen Wiig, on the other hand, who voiced Miss Hattie in the original film, will voice Lucy Wilde, an agent of the Anti-Villain League (AVL) who recruits Gru to track and take a tough, Mexican villain named Eduardo. Steve Coogan has also joined the cast as Silas Ramsbottom, the head of the Anti-Villain League.[2] On May 3, 2013, just two months before the film's release, it was announced that Al Pacino had left the film over creative differences,[9] with Benjamin Bratt stepping in to voice Eduardo.[8]
