Template:Conflicts in Romania and Moldova (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Strange combination of social unrest and wars in two different countries bundled in one template. The Banner talk 21:00, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:TajikPersian (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

No benefit over {{lang-tg}}/{{lang-fa}}. — Lfdder (talk) 17:43, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I don't really see the purpose of this one. It links to two alphabet articles, but anything that uses this template should only be using one alphabet. The two alphabetic spellings should be separated with separate templates prefacing each spelling. -- 70.24.249.39 (talk) 05:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Transliteration scheme side boxes

Template:Malayalam transliteration (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Tamil transliteration (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Tulu transliteration (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

We don't need a whole box to tell people what kind of translit scheme we're using. Just like with languages, preface the first translit in the article with the wikilink to it, and people will get it. — Lfdder (talk) 17:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment unlike the script-warning-boxes, I don't see the need for these, since we're using a latin transcription, so there's no worry about having characters that an English-based computer system won't display. And any notice of what transliteration scheme to use should either be codified in a MOS for that language/script, or appear as a talk page banner (such as how the WP:ENGVAR banners exist as talk page material, and not article page material) -- 70.24.249.39 (talk) 05:48, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Panachaiki sections (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Further to Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2013 September 16#Template:Panionios sections - this template only has one blue-link, and it is unlikely that the other red-links will ever be independently notable from the sports club they are departments of. It therefore serves no purpose as a navbox. GiantSnowman 16:03, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox cultural center (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Single use on Centro Cultural de Ponce Carmen Solá de Pereira, can be replaced by Template:Infobox organization. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:41, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox landslide (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Single use on 1996 Yosemite Valley landslide, it shares all parameters with Template:Infobox news event (which is used for all kinds of disasters), except for debris_weight and fall_speed, which could be added to that template, either directly or as blank fields. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:38, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox Ukrainian oblast divisions (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Used only on Administrative divisions of Khmelnytskyi Oblast, it duplicates much of the information available on Khmelnytskyi Oblast so it could be deleted without replacement. If necessary, the number of cities and villages could be displayed in a table. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:35, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox Texas regional council (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Created in April and used on 24 articles, it could be replaced with Template:Infobox settlement. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't it be better to use only the most recent population figures? In other cases Template:Historical populations is used for that purpose, but since those articles are nearly all stubs it might be excessive to add a separate template for 2 or 3 population figures. If that option doesn't convince you, it could be moved to a more generic name, and used for all articles that require more than one population figure for the same place.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 23:40, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Seetal railway line (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Single use on Seetal railway line, should be substituted and deleted. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:27, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

CSD T3 takes at least a week, a TfD might actually be faster for these templates. And there is always the possibility that someone might object.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 11:38, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So does a TfD, except in rare cases of WP:SNOW keeps. And a user can still object by removing the speedy tag, or better, by invalidating the criterion. Keφr 11:53, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Until May this year, the template contained just the expandable route diagram, transcluded from within an Infobox in the article. This is a fairly standard situation for railway line articles. Then, for some reason and without explanation, an editor moved the infobox into the template. So should we revert to the pre-May situation, or should we substitute the lot (including the expandable line diagram). Personally I'd vote for the latter, apart from the fact that I've tried it several times (on other articles) but never managed to get it to render the infobox correctly. If you can, great. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 11:46, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. Route diagrams should be in their own templates so that it is not necessary to edit an entire article just to make a small change on the diagram. Useddenim (talk) 04:13, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. I had put the infobox into this diagram because I was encountering a formatting error. This has now been fixed, and the original, correct configuration (infobox on article page, RDT transcluded into infobox) has now been restored. Useddenim (talk) 04:13, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. It is perfectly normal to have the code for a RDT kept out of a railway line article and in many cases it is also used in related stations. Secondarywaltz (talk)
  • Keep The code of an RDT is kept out the article to improve readabity and to reduce the risk of the technical template code being changed at same time someone does a simple change to the article. Edgepedia (talk) 05:28, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox op1 (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Only use in userspace, if really necessary OP-1 could use Template:Infobox synthesizer for his user page. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:26, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox television bowling (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Used only for Bowling Revolution P-League, rather than fork Template:Infobox television it would be better to use a simple floating table to add any additional information. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:21, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why I created this template just for this article is that, unlike other television series, this show has been moved around three times. None of the other templates allow me to show all three time slots, and the dates/episode numbers for each of them. I'm not a template expert, so unless someone can modify Template:Infobox television... BTW, this template was copied from the Japanese Wikipedia, and the Japanese version of Bowling Revolution P-League uses it. Groink (talk) 19:44, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Replace with {{Infobox television}} as for moving timeslots around, it should only display the current timeslot, so if the series is no longer aired, no timeslot should be indicated, and instead the text of the article should indicate the timeslots. Many TV shows have their timeslots changed through their airing histories, several even change networks. -- 70.24.249.39 (talk) 05:35, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Script/Greek (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Purely stylistic (there isn't a modern OS without support for Greek characters) and overwrites user fonts when used inside {{lang}}. — Lfdder (talk) 10:21, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On my browser, I found the default font used to display Greek was not very legible. For example α looks rather too much like the letter a on my browser, but α looks better. I now use {{Polytonic}} instead since that seems like a standard thing, but now that I look this seems to be zero improvement over using no template at all, at least for α. I go for the "mostpeople" solution. user fonts are kind of exotic. Can you fix it so user fonts are not ignored? My usage is completely for ancient Greek rather than modern Greek. Bob Burkhardt (talk) 14:51, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Polytonic was deprecated last year; you shouldn't be using it. Either way, polytonic transcludes {lang|grc| ... } (the template that's replaced it); {lang|grc} sets the HTML lang attribute for text you throw at it to "grc", and nothing else. This means that you can use :lang(grc) in your user style sheet to change the font for everything that's grc-tagged to one you like, with no effect for other people, like so:
   :lang(grc) {
       font-family: "DejaVu Sans", sans-serif;
   }
In general, you should not make other people's font choices for them -- that is, unless they'd otherwise not be able to view text in that script, like with Cuneiform. — Lfdder (talk) 15:14, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And, for the record, I think the default font (Arial for me) is perfectly legible, and I like to see Latin and Greek in the same font. — Lfdder (talk) 15:23, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

The template's talk page says it was created "to provide custom image headings for a coin, Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar, whose obverse/reverse designation is ambiguous." It would be better to change Template:Infobox coin to accommodate the article's requirements, but if this is not possible it should be substituted and deleted. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:19, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge As the author of the FA, Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar, I need the template or something that will do the same trick, as which side is obverse (heads) and which reverse (tails) is a matter of dispute. Note the discussion on article talk page. Please do not delete it without a replacement or something that does the same trick. If you go ahead and delete and no one changes infobox coin, I shall be royally pissed.--Wehwalt (talk) 23:59, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox coin 2 (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Not sure why this is needed when there is a Template:Infobox coin 1, but it's used on only 10 articles. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:17, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

merge with {{infobox coin}}, looks like there may be a couple missing parameters, but nothing that merging could not fix. Frietjes (talk) 23:18, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Merge or delete per Frietjes. As someone who works with coin articles quite a bit, I don't see that this template is useful. If there are any good ideas, incorporate them into infobox coin.
Template:Infobox motorsport round (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Template:Assassins (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

move to Assassins (band) and send to AfD, or delete per {{db-band}} if the lack of notability is clear. Frietjes (talk) 15:08, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox ATS (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Unused and in any case redundant to Template:Infobox organization. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:07, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox Yogasana (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Single use, should be subst'ed and deleted. eh bien mon prince (talk) 10:05, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong Delete The infobox is coding for a location infobox, complete with location map, elevation about sea level, etc. This should clearly not be substed into the article, as that mess of coding is useless. -- 70.24.249.39 (talk) 05:20, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox film actor (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Template:Infobox equestrian championship (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Either this or Template:Infobox Equestrian Championships should be deleted, and perhaps they could both be replaced by a more generic infobox. eh bien mon prince (talk) 09:59, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete Template:Infobox equestrian championship; but Speedy Keep Template:Infobox Equestrian Championships - I agree there is no need for both, and the latter is clearly better put together. I don't agree on a generic infobox; I think there is sufficient structure and similarity to equestrian competitions, whether stand alone or multievent, different from other generic sports competitions, to justify a separate infobox.

It provides a useful summary in table form of salient points that someone looking at an equestrian comp page would like to know, espially thinhs like horse and riders. As a general rule, generic sports infoboxes rarely allow for enough 'specialist' or event specific information specific to that sport, unless the sports follow a very broadly similar structure - say all the various football or rugby codes, or various martial arts codes.

I can imagine an infobox for, say, motor sport or sailing or even cycling - any events involving races for individuals and teams by means of propulsion other than simply the athlete - might contain some usefully similar functionality, but building a generic box in such a way risks losing more than you gain.
