License tagging for Image:Ijtest.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Ijtest.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:08, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Rhythm, Rhyme, Results

There is no indication that the article follow the process to allow Wikipedia to carry this copyrighted material. Adding a hangon tag does not mean the article will be kept. Take a look at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Also I did use the wrong code when I deleted this, sorry. It failed to show that it was notable in my opinion. However given the issues of copyright it needed to be deleted. If you can rewrite the article without using copyrighted material so that it meets WP:ORG, WP:N, WP:RS and WP:VIO then you can do so. You may also need to look at WP:COI if you are involved in the operation. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:00, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

You have been adding four tildes (~~~~) in your edit summaries. Four tildes are only to be used on discussion pages in order to automatically generate your signature. For example, at the end of this post I will place four tildes. Instead of appearing on the actual page as four tildes, my username will be shown, along with a timestamp showing when I posted this comment: Jujutacular talk 18:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2009 class

Hi, I thought I'd let you know about Wikipedia:Music encyclopedia topics, in case you haven't seen it yet. If your students are looking to create articles as part of their assignment, the red-links can provide some ideas of subjects which Wikipedia still hasn't covered. Also, they really have to watch copy-pasting and close-paraphrasing from copyright sources, which includes just about any website. Wikipedia is now really cracking down on this. I only mention this because there were some articles in previous years from the Futureclass group that had copypasted text, and I'd hate to see the students get into trouble. Many editors, especially new ones, don't realize what constitutes a copyright text or that close paraphrasing is also a copyright violation. I've written some guidelines on this issue for WikiProject Opera, but the advice, FAQs etc. basically apply to all articles. You'll find them here. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:19, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much, Voceditenore! Though I'm still searching for my way on Wikipedia, my students and I find your input immensely inspiring. (Not having visited talk page in too long, I had not seen you kind and helpful message until just now. I appreciate it.) Happy New Year!Ijmusic (talk) 19:31, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Futureclass 2010

Voceditenore (talk) 08:59, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Vision of music's future – a couple of things...

Hi there! I went over to check out User:Vision of music's future. A couple of things...

  • I removed the template {{EducationalAssignment}} - this only goes on article talk pages – not user talk pages – as it automatically puts the page in article categories.
  • The page has no registered account attached to it, and shouldn't be used for your project page. Actually, User:Futureclass is also problematic as it represents a group rather than a single individual, even if no one actually edits under that account. (I assume you are also registered as this account). See WP:NOSHARE. There are a couple of ways to fix this:

    1. Move User:Vision of music's future and User:Futureclass and their talk pages to new subpages of your main account, e.g. User:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future and User:Ijmusic/Future of classical music. Example here.

    2. Move the pages to new subpages of Wikipedia:School and university projects e.g. Wikipedia:School and university projects/Vision of music's future and Wikipedia:School and university projects/Future of classical music. Example here.

For either of these options, make sure you move the pages rather than cutting the contents from one pasting them into the other. Otherwise, you lose the edit history. Moving the pages will automatically create a re-direct from the original page, so your students won't get lost. WP:MOVE explains how to do this, or if you like, I'd be happy to do this for you.

I look forward to your new crop of students. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 07:39, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arggh! Or should I just *sigh*. One works: <user:Ijmusic/Futureclass>! Unfortunately, I created the new page for <user:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future> before I should have; we both know what happened then. You were more than kind to offer to do the honors--I wanted to be able to do it myself.
Having devised a quick 'n' dirty, I'd prefer not to retain the inelegant <user:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future-Berklee>, but I will you advise me to. With thanks, dear VdT, Ijmusic (talk) 22:37, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Preceding comment copied from here to keep the conversation in one place. Voceditenore (talk) 08:04, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops! I should have reminded you not to create the target page first as you can't move a page to a pre-existing page, you can only redirect it. Here's what I've done. I've redirected both User:Vision of music's future and User:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future-Berklee (and their talk pages) to User:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future (and its talk page). If you click on each link, you'll see that they work. So you can just go ahead and edit User:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future and your class can use it as your main project page. In order to redirect the talk pages, I had to create User talk:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future. I just used a standard tag to have something on the page. The only possible issue would be if in the future someone else wanted to register the user name Vision of music's future. But I think that's highly unlikely, so I'd just let sleeping dogs lie.
By the way, I've copied your response from my talk page here, as it's best to keep all the conversation on one topic in one place. I've got your talk page on my watchlist, so I won't miss any messages about the page moves. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 08:04, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, dear VdT, for your great grace and for your efforts on our, and my, behalf. Thanks also for making our communication more efficient! Tomorrow, the class begins their voyage of discovery on Wikipedia! You've done more than wish us luck: you've helped us to the blueprints of seaworthy crafts. Best, Ijmusic (talk) 23:43, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You have wrought wonders, VdT, and you're fast to boot! This morning, I sent a concerned e-mail to the Vision of Music's Future class, for none had entered their tildes. Imagine my surprise upon returning this evening: not only have several subscribed, but you have welcomed them as well. Thank you, again, for your prompt and gracious attention to our well-being on Wikipedia. I know how pleased the students will be to have heard from you. Yours, Ijmusic (talk) 03:09, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're very welcome.;-) Wow! This is a big class. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 21:09, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Info

Something you might want to discuss with your students... several of them have posted their real names and full date of birth. Quite a few Wikipedians edit under their own names, but adding your full date of birth as well can lead to identity theft. It's a small risk, but they should be aware of it. An alternative is to just include the birth year. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 22:19, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I'll alert the class right now.
When class met today, many expressed wonder and pleasure that you would post so quickly to each of our pages. Cautioning them about infractions, I had described you to them last week as our Good Angel; you lived up to your billing! Best, Ijmusic (talk) 23:15, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

About to hit

Hi, VdT. The Berklee students will be posting their articles this week. Should each feature a "Created as an educational assignment" banner? In haste, Ijmusic (talk) 22:28, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, sorry I've been so late replying. I've been away all of August. I've checked all the new articles created by your students and bannered their talk pages for relevant projects, as well as being educational assignments, e.g. Talk:Tamia Valmont I notice that some of your students do not appear to have articles or their articles were deleted. If you contact User:DGG (an administrator), he can email a copy of the deleted article or can "userfy" it. That is, restore it to the creator's user page. I'm off again until September 8th. Until then, Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 17:06, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

General feedback page

Hi IJ, I've added some general feedback to this year's class as a whole on the Futureclass talk page. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:26, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Star

Thank you so much for the "Shiny Star". It's been my pleasure to help your class. Each year they get better and better. I've made this suggestion to one of your students. Do emphasise to him that I'm happy to help him get the content into the BSO article. Voceditenore (talk) 17:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ping...

PS. I'm going to add some image advice for the students (and future students) to User talk:Ijmusic/Futureclass. So keep an eye out for it. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:35, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for Wikipedia Ambassadors

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian associated with Harvard. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at schools in Boston and Cambridge (including Harvard), which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you live near Boston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.

If you're an experienced and active Wikipedian, you might be interested alternatively in becoming an Online Ambassador. The role of Online Ambassadors is to serve as mentors for students; it doesn't require any in-person outreach. Take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

The article August Heckscher II has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. –Dream out loud (talk) 19:51, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New user pages

Hi IJ, I just went to welcome one of your Berklee students, and see that Wikipedia now has now instituted these rather large and clunky automatically created user pages, e.g. this one.

If your students would rather not have all the graphics, giant globes, ghost pictures etc. on their user page, they can get rid of it and just keep their own "about me" section. All they have to do is edit the page, remove the element:

{{New user bar}}

then click "save"

Summertime

Hi IJ, just a note to say I'm off on Tuesday for most of August. In the meantime have a good summer and best wishes to your students. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 14:20, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The new Futureclass

Hi IJ, welcome back! I saw you updated Futureclass today. I'm looking forward to meeting Longy's new Wikipedians soon. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 16:17, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comings and goings

Hi IJ. Just a note to say that I'll be away until November 28th with pretty limited computer access. If some of your students are a little unsure about the contributions they're going to make, they probably should work in their personal sandboxes first. When I get back I plan to make their work my first priority here, so help will be at hand. In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:59, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to join WikiProject Stanford University!

View of Hoover Tower from Main Quad.

As a current or past contributor to a related article, I thought I'd let you know about WikiProject Stanford University, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Stanford University. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks and related articles. Thanks!

Student contributions

Hi IJ, me again. I took the liberty of adding links to the each student's contributions at User:Ijmusic/Vision of music's future. It helps me keep track of their exploits to have them all on one page. Feel free to remove the links if you'd rather not have them. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 15:27, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One of your students may be confused ...

Hi IJ, me again. I notice that one of your students listed his name on the class page as User:Albino. But I think that account belongs to someone else and the student is actually edting as User:Albinombie [1]. I left them a note about it on their talk page. Just a heads-up as this will need to be sorted out. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:06, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and fixed this on the class page. User:Albino is a completely different editor and on top of that has been indefintely blocked from the German Wikipedia [2]. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 06:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Teahouse

Hi IJ. Me again. I'm shortly leaving for a month in Italy where I'll have very limited internet access. So I've left notes on all your students' talk pages letting them know about Wikipedia's Teahouse. It provides great support for new editors. They can ask questions (no question is too basic) and get helpful answers and advice from experienced editors. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:29, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ijmusic. You have new messages at Voceditenore's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Note from Voceditenore

Hi IJ, welcome back! I'm sorry to hear you've been out of commission and hope all is well now. I'm off to Italy today, but just wanted to alert you to User talk:Ijmusic/Futureclass. I've added some more information there for the new students, as there have been some changes on Wikipedia in the last few months, especially concerning the Visual Editor and the Article Wizard. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 05:00, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to your latest brood

Hi IJ, I'll be happy to look out for them, as always. Please tell the students that if they have any articles or drafts they'd like my advice on to feel free to contact me on my talk page. I'll keep an eye on their contributions too, but the direct approach is sometimes faster. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:55, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
