Iman Ali (Punjabi, Urdu: اایمان علی) is a Pakistani actress and model who appears in Lollywood films. She is known for her role in 2007 film Khuda Kay Liye for which she won Lux Style Award for Best Actress. In 2011 she appeared in Shoaib Mansoor's film Bol, which was first highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time.[1] She is one of the leading actresses in Pakistani cinema.[2]

Personal life

Iman was born into a Muslim family in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. She is the daughter of actor Abid Ali and Humaira Ali who happen to be separated. She attended Divisional Public School in Model Town, Lahore. She is very candid in expressing the distant relationship she shares with her father.[3] She is the sister of actress Maryam Ali and Raimah Ali.[4]

Iman Ali is suffering from multiple sclerosis, also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata. She has said that her disease was more complicated than "blood clotting", but has continued fashion projects with passion and ambition.

Career

Modelling

Introduced to the fast-paced world of fashion by photographer Shahzad Raza, Iman enjoys great recognition in India because of her work with several Indian designers such as Suneet Varma, Tarun Tahiliani, Rina Dhaka, Manish Malhotra, JJ Valaya and other various designers at the Bride and Groom show in India.[3] Fashion critics rate her among the top models of Pakistan. She has been described as bold and beautiful amongst the fashion circles and loves to encourage other models who show talents. She was the face of "Luscious Cosmetics", which is a popularly growing cosmetic brands of Pakistan. Ali has also been awarded Lux Style Awards for best female model.

Film debut and breakthrough

In 2005, Ali appeared in Ishq Mohabbat Apna Pan in a seven-minute music video directed by Shoaib Mansoor. She co-hosted the Lux Style Awards in 2005 and has since starred television productions, which ended after her breakthrough in to films.

In 2007, Ali made her film debut in Shoaib Mansoor's Khuda Kay Liye opposite Shaan, Fawad Afzal Khan and Naseeruddin Shah for which she received the Lux Style Awards for 'Best Actress' in 2008. She appeared in a supporting role in Shoaib Mansoor's second film, Bol opposite Humaima Malik, Atif Aslam and Mahira Khan.

In 2013, she is set to appear in her third film, Operation 021, opposite former co-star Shaan Shahid and Aamina Sheikh. The film is produced by One Motion Pictures.[5] She has also signed Anjum Shehzad's Next Untitled project opposite Fahad Mustafa and Sanam Saeed, which will be release in 2014.

Television

She first appeared in a serial Dil Dekay Jaien Gey. After that she appeared in Arman, Kismat, Woh Tees Din, Pehla Pyar and Kuch Log Roth Kar Kay Bhi. In addition, Iman Ali starred alongside Shehzad Roy, in the first episode of Geo New's TV Serial "Chal Parha" aired on Geo News on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 19:30 PST.
