Template:Infobox reality talent competition The X Factor is a British television music competition to find new singing talent. The eleventh series will air on ITV in 2014. Dermot O'Leary will return to present the main show on ITV, while it has not yet been confirmed if Caroline Flack and Matt Richardson return to present spin-off show The Xtra Factor on ITV2. The judges confirmed are Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole.

This series sees the age limit decreased from 16 to 14, as it was in series 4 and 5.[1]

Judges and presenters

In May 2013, it was announced that Sharon Osbourne, who was on The X Factor judging panel from its inception in 2004 before departing in 2008 prior to its fifth series, would return to the show for the tenth series.[2] Later, however, Osbourne stated that she was only back for one series, in order to "go out on a high".[3] Also, during the first live show of series 10, Gary Barlow revealed that it would be his last series on the show.[4] Louis Walsh, who has been on the show since its inception, announced his intention to quit as well, stating that he wanted his "life back",[5] although he later backtracked and said that he "might come back" if Simon Cowell returned.[6] Midway throughout the live shows, Walsh said "I'm having so much fun this year, I might stay".[7] Although Walsh's return is not yet confirmed, it is likely he will return for an eleventh consecutive series.[8] On 13 February, it was reported that Scherzinger had quit the show,[9] but her spokesman reported later that day that she was "still in discussions with bosses".[10] On 14 February, Cowell announced that Scherzinger would not be returning by tweeting, "Nicole will always be a part of the X factor family. Now signed to Sony as an artist. Thank you Nicole for everything."[11]

In February 2014, the U.S. version of the show was cancelled after three seasons. Subsequently, Cowell, who left the UK show after series 7 in order to launch and judge the U.S. version, announced his return.[12][13] He said, "I'm absolutely thrilled to be returning to The X Factor UK. It's been three years since I last judged the competition and I'm excited to find a global superstar again."[12][13] On 10 March, former judge Cheryl Cole announced on her Instagram that she will be returning for the eleventh series, stating: "GUESS WHAT!!.. I'm baaaacccckkkkk!!!!"[14]

Dermot O'Leary confirmed that he will return for his eighth series as presenter of the main show on ITV.[15] It has not yet been confirmed if Caroline Flack and Matt Richardson will return to co-present spin-off show The Xtra Factor on ITV2. Further announcement of the judges and presenters will be announced later in the year and will be fully confirmed before the show begins.

Promotion

On March 11, Cowell and Cole, the only confirmed judges at that stage, appeared in a Daybreak interview together to promote the eleventh series for the first time. They discussed the upcoming series, their individual returns, Cole's departure from The X Factor USA and their subsequent feud; with Simon admitting, "I made a mistake" (in relation to the sacking of Cole). Two advertisements subsequently began to air on ITV featuring Cole and Cowell separately, in order to encourage potential contestants to audition.
