Request for permissions archives |
Please read the guide on the main page before requesting permission. In applying for AWB access, you indicate that you will abide by its terms.
Also, this page is for requesting AWB Access for this wiki (English Wikipedia) only. Other projects have their own check pages and you should ask administrators there to add you.
Please add your name to the bottom of the appropriate list (user or bot) on this page below using *
. Enter your user name exactly as the software displays it, for example in the 'Basic information' section of your preferences. Do not use underscores instead of spaces or change the case of the first letter. Note that all usernames begin with an uppercase letter or a symbol.
{{AWBUser|your username}}
~~~~~
If the list contains undecided entries that are over 48 hours old, please change
to {{noadminbacklog}}
at the top of this page.
{{adminbacklog}}
Note that users with under 500 mainspace non-automated edits are rarely approved. You can check your contributions in each namespace at Tool Labs. You only need to give a reason for wanting AWB access if you have fewer than 500 mainspace non-automated edits. Administrators are automatically approved and do not need to list themselves.
If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. If you will make many or fast automated edits using AWB, you may wish to use a separate (or bot) account for the purpose.
- Oshwah (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) Would love to have access to this tool. It would make my tasks, patrols, and edits much less repetitive. 08:51, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- I would like to see you do some more writing so I can tell that you can spell. So far I see some edits on Mountain View High School (Bend, Oregon) and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Thermaltake&oldid=253071277. Do you have any more edits that you have added your own text with? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:17, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, Graeme Bartlett. You may see that I've just returned from a long hiatus from contributing in order to expand my education. I plan to use my experience and what I've learned in order to contribute to the integrity of Wikipedia. I've recently added content here the other day. It's only the first edit of the many others that I will be deploying by the end of the week. I've also just finished writing the final changes to my scripts and will soon begin the official process outlined in WP:BOTPOL to begin properly testing and transitioning the bot I've written to be used. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll be more than happy to discuss them. ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 07:25, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- I am waiting to see the contributions to be made by the end of the week. I have never heard this process called "deploy" before, it sounds more like you are going to deploy a bot! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:30, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett:, do you want to action this request? — xaosflux Talk 11:51, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have only seen one big edit near the end of the week, so at this point I cannot see much writing from the AWB candidate at all. The users edits are positive, but not related much to expansion or copyediting. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:55, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Good morning! I'm sorry for taking so long to follow-up on this request. I've been extremely busy with work and it's been difficult to find time to sit down and make the article edits and contributions that I've been wanting to make. However, I've been reading through the software's source code and your use of C# to design the UI and perform AWB tasks. The software code and the program's functionality are mostly what spiked my interest and convinced me to file a request. I completely understand the concerns that were raised and why you guys are very particular with those that you allow access to this program. Just judging by the source code I've read through so far, I know just how easy it is for someone to make numerous and damaging edits, and in a very short period of time. I just wanted to offer my assurance that, if given the 'OK' to use the program, I will respect it's power and potential for abuse and will strictly obey all regulations and proper usage guidelines. If you still feel unsure about granting me access, I completely understand; I can always file another request after I've made some constructive article edits and give you the "proof in the pudding". The weekend is near, and I hope to spend it writing some articles. In the meantime, I leave the decision to your fair and honest judgment. Thanks again for the feedback and the consideration. ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 10:14, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
- Juno (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) I've been around for a few years and have already been granted some user rights. I would like to use this tool to automate some of my work. Juno (talk) 01:14, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Can you please be a bit more specific about what you want to do with AWB? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:00, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
- Fixing up categories and tags, cleaning up spelling. Juno (talk) 01:10, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
- I'm a quite productive user on the german Wikipedia. I want to experiment with this interesting tool. I've quite some respect and will handle it with caution. Greetings,--Mischa004 (talk) 08:52, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Please follow the instructions at the top of this page. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:42, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I read it now.--Mischa004 (talk) 08:27, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
- The idea is to add your request according to the instructions, not just to read the request addition instructions. This is part of the requirements. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:03, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
- TheEpTic (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) 20:43, 28 September 2014 (UTC) - I wish to use AWB to automate my tasks as a Wikipedia vandalism patroller, allowing me to fight vandalism easier and quicker. :)
- TheEpTic (not a not-done just curious) There has been an uptick in this request type recently - of all of the automation tools, I never really considered AWB an anti-vandalism tool like Huggle or STK; how are you going to make use of it for this type of activity? — xaosflux Talk 12:13, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- Xaosflux, I wish to find vandalism easier by making automatic tasks that will find key words, such as a profanity. I will then manually check it over and I'll go from there on. That's just an example of one of the things I could possibly use it for with anti-vandalism. I'm sure there are many other things one could do with it. TheEpTic (talk) 12:18, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- This is a very very bad way to find vandalism; Several articles include profanity anyway. Additionally, searching all our pages would 1. take ages and 2. use a lot of resources (unless you use a data dump). Can I suggest huggle or STiki instead? --Mdann52talk to me! 05:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- Vandalism isn't just the only thing I wish to use it for. I'll also be using it for article cleaning such as dates and typo fixing. I already use Huggle for vandalism. TheEpTic (talk) 08:59, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- ChamithN (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email)-I would love to do clean-up,and other fixes using this tool because it is much easier to use a semi-automated tool rather than doing it yourself.I think I can prevent lots of mistakes if I used a semi-automated tool like AWB.Also I've been reverting vandalism/patrolling pages using Twinkle.With over 500 mainspace edits,I think I meet the requirements.
- Remove Hym411 and add -revi (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) - I have been renamed on meta, so it should be changed. — revi^ 13:50, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Darreg (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) I am an established editor with many years of significant contributions. As a frequent article creator (with autopatrolled privileges), I want to request for AWB tool in-order to create modules that will automate minor changes in many of "my" similar articles at the same time. I am quite familiar with C# programming language and have gone through the conditions and regulations in using AWB. Thanks.21:44, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Cutest Penguin (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) I would like to use Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser for maintaining articles on Wikipedia. I will use this tool for patrolling new pages, for clean up like typo, adding maintenance templates such as newly created articles which generally seems to be Orphan and for other purposes which I believe that I can do best for Wikipedia. — CutestPenguinHangout 16:59, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- Batreeqah (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email)–I am requesting the AWB permission so I can edit articles and fix them. I currently have the Pending Changes Reviewer permission. I have experience from wikiHow and Wikia using AutoWikiBrowser. I thoroughly understand Wikipedia's policies and have read Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser. My main goal of this tool is to help Wikipedia. Thank you, Batreeqah (Talk) (Contribs) 23:45, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Not done You can still edit articles to fix them. In fact I would like to see more of this kind of edit to show how your write before granting AWB access. Reverting and tagging don't count towards the content improvement test for AWB. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:10, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- Green Cardamom (talk • contribs • non-automated contribs • wikichecker • count • total • logs • page moves • block log • email) - Will be using AWB to expand on a tool I wrote on Tool Server External Link Discovery (ELD). This tool finds articles that are in need of external link templates {{Gutenberg author}}, {{Internet Archive author}} and {{Librivox author}}. Currently ELD simply produces a report with suggested wiki markup to manually add to articles. I have since forked ELD (on my home unix) to produce a complete wikimarkup file of the article for upload to Wikipedia with the templates added. I plan on using AWB for the purpose of uploading the updated wikimarkup. It will be automated and semi-automated, depending on which templates and articles. For example if an article already has an Internet Archive URL of a certain known format, it will just replace that with the new template automatically. I have tested this across thousands of articles and have seen 0 error rate. In semi-automated mode it will require manual checking before upload but all done via CLI to greatly speed up the process. Most cases will fall into semi-automated mode. If AWB is not the right place or tool for this please let know. Thanks for the consideration. And just to clarify this is for personal use not for use on Tools Server. -- GreenC 21:35, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- Please add your request according to the instructions above. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:49, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- Added template. -- GreenC 01:36, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I would like to get access to this tool to make the repetitive tasks simpler. I am currently doing recent changes patrolling. This tool will be beneficial for me to add maintenance tags and for doing general fixes and cleanup in newly created articles. I believe that i can use it constructively in Wikipedia. thanks Owais khursheed (talk) 05:18, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'd like to use AWB for removing the terms "upon release", "upon its release" and similar from Wikipedia articles; for example, "Upon release, the film received positive reviews." These terms are usually (but not always) redundant, and I intend to check each instance before removing it. I've been editing Wikipedia for a few years and have made approximately 3500 edits, mainly to articles about film and music. My main activity is copy-editing, and AWB would help me find and fix redundancies. Thanks. 16:13, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I would like to use AWB to make repetitive tasks easier and simpler. I frequently patrol the recent changes, helping stop vandalism, welcoming users and tagging articles. I am also a pending changes reviewer and have rollback permissions It would help me by adding maintenance tags and for doing general fixes and cleanup in articles.
- Done but please don't do bulk tagging, fix the problems instead. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:23, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
