Request

Next week is finals week for me. I need to focus on my academics, and I want to make sure I stay away from Wikipedia until the finals are over. To that end, if I make any edits between 01:30 UTC 2 May 2015 and 17:00 UTC 7 May 2015 I would like to request that I be blocked for one week starting at the time I made the edits. I'm not an admin, so I cant block you. But I wanted to say, that I really admire such people as you :) All my efforts to stay out of Wikipedia (whether I'm blocked or not) are unsuccessful (i'm mainly aediting at Latvian Wikipedia). Comment: Probably too late, but consider the Wikibreak enforcer. You can also specifically request blocks from admins in Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to consider placing self-requested blocks, but judging from the rules of two admins, they prefer you use the Wikibreak enforcer before contacting them. The Wikibreak Enforcer is a better idea, but if you really want to be blocked, just ask. I'm closing the help template as it really is't going to do what you want - you're basically asking administrators to patrol your edits, and unless you're planning a spree of vandalism, we won't wikistalk you just to make sure you're doing your homework. To put it bluntly, what you do in the real world is none of our concern; editing Wikipedia when you're meant to be doing something else isn't a valid reason to block you (if it was, half the editing population would be indeffed by now). If you actually want to be blocked until the 7th, then I or another admin will be happy to do so if you ask, but I'd still recommend Rotideypoc's suggestion above. deOrphaning script

Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.

What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.

Permission to enroll in your adoption school

Really appreciated your assistance in the IRC channel earlier, and was as hoping there might be an open spot in your adoption school. Assuming a reasonable rate of tuition, I'd love to enroll.

There's definitely room :). The way I do it is, I have an adoption school page set up, which adoptees create their own version of. The page contains lessons which I think help users gain a good basic knowledge of how Wikipedia works. If that sounds good to you, then go to User:Howicus/Adoption school and follow the instructions there to create your own copy of the page. Just completed my first section in adoption school. Just out of curiosity, how i officially enroll on the Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters page and reflect it in a banner on my user page?

DRAFT:ULTRASAT

Hi Howicus, Thank you for reviewing the draft of ULTRASAT. you rejected it because it is lacking relevant sources that cover ULTRASAT specifically in depth. I was trying to help Railfan31 and I have found the lectures given in the Ilan Ramon International annual Space Conference in 2013: two specific lectures about ULTRASAT - one about the payload in minute 52:16- ULTRASAT even if the lecture is in HEBREW all the slides are in English, and I also have the English transcript of the lecture published by the Fisher Institute in hard copy. in This lecture minute 1:11:04 you can see they call it still LIMSAT. In the 2015 conference minute 34:13 the head of IAI MBT mentions the changes in concept and aiming now for the GEO orbit. On the ISA website there is also a dedicated page for ULTRASAT. Well, the ISA page is a usable source. Wikipedia doesn't consider YouTube a reliable source, however, so YouTube links wouldn't work. If those videos are posted elsewhere, say on the Fisher Institute's websites, you could link to them there. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 19:51, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I got to the youtTube videos from the Fisher Institute website (through a link), since they posted the videos of the conference lectures on their official channel. I noticed that you had the page for Sir Matthew Edward removed due to you thinking it was a hoax. Sir Matthew Edward is indeed a real person who is related to each of the people listed. He is the youngest president to serve The Southern Social Register and is a founding member. He has modeled, acted, and preformed at William Morris Talent Agency in California. Well, the version of your article provided no sources, no proof that Sir Matthew Edward is both real and notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia articles need to be based on reliable, independent sources such as newspapers, magazines, or books. A new user who you might be able to help

Hello! My name is Howicus, I believe we may have talked on IRC. Today I ran into the user Denizeryuruk. They keep creating pages on the English Wikipedia, in the Turkish language, about subjects that already have English language articles. Since you have Turkish in your Wikipedia Babel box, I was wondering if you could perhaps leave them a message in Turkish, and try to point them to tr.wikipedia.org instead of here.
