Trigana Air Service Flight 267 (IL267/TGN267) was a scheduled 45-min domestic passenger flight within Indonesia from Sentani to Oksibil. on 16 August 2015, the aircraft crashed about 30 minutes after takeoff.[1][2][3] Its wreckage was found by villagers in the Bintang highlands region of Oksibil. On board were 49 passengers (including five infants) and five crew members. It was not immediately clear whether there are any survivors. A search for survivors was suspended due to poor light.[4]

Aircraft & Operator

The 27-year-old ATR-42 turboprop aircraft, originally owned by Resort Air and Trans States Airlines as N421TE, previously was involved in several minor incidents, including a wheel separation incident, before being transferred to Trigana in 2005. [5]

Aircrafts operated by Trigana Air have been involved in 14 serious incidents, 10 of which resulted in hull loss. [6] Trigana Air has been on the European Union blacklist of banned carriers since 2007.[4]

Incident

The Trigana Air Service flight took off from Sentani Airport in Jayapura at 2:22 p.m. local time and was scheduled to land in Oksibil at about 3:16 p.m. Contact was lost with the aircraft at about 2:55 p.m.[7] There was no indication that a distress call was made from the plane.[8] Stormy weather was cited as a possible cause of the crash.[citation needed]

At 3:30 pm, the National Search and Rescue Agency deployed a search aircraft to find the missing aircraft. However, the search was suspended because of foggy weather and was scheduled to resume on 17 August. Unofficial reports from local residents said the plane crashed into the mountain side in Okbape district of Pegunungan Bintang Municipality in Papua.[9][10]

It was reported that locals saw the plane crash into a mountain [11]
