WWE 2K18 is an upcoming professional wrestling video game being developed in a collaboration between Yuke's and Visual Concepts, and to be published by 2K Sports. It is scheduled to be released worldwide on October 17, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It is the nineteenth game in the WWE game series (fifth under the WWE 2K banner), and is the sequel to WWE 2K17.[1][2] It will also be the first video game under the WWE 2K banner to be released on a Nintendo platform. This will also be the first video game under the WWE 2K banner to not be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Marketing
On May 23, 2017, 2K Sports announced WWE 2K18 would be released in fall 2017. On June 19, 2017, 2K released a trailer revealing Seth Rollins featured in the game's cover art.[3] The trailer, with the tagline "Be Like No One", features Rollins vandalizing and burning down a fictitious WWE warehouse in Stamford, Connecticut. A second trailer, which announced Kurt Angle as the game's pre-order, features Angle visiting the ruins of the warehouse and finding a pair of his boots among the ashes.[4] A deluxe edition was also announced, giving players access to the game four days early, along with the season pass and additional in-game content yet to be announced.[5] On July 10, 2017, a Nintendo Switch version was also confirmed.[6]
On July 27, 2017, 2K Sports announced the collector's edition, called the "Cena (Nuff)" edition. Revolving around John Cena, the edition includes a Cena action figure, a piece of ring mat from his victory at the 2017 Royal Rumble, and an autographed photo from Cena. Unlike previous years, the collector's edition will also include the game's season pass. The collector's edition (as well as the deluxe edition) will have two additional playable versions of Cena (ECW One Night Stand 2006 and WrestleMania XXVI attires), as well as Batista and Rob Van Dam as playable characters.[7]
Roster
On June 29, 2017, it was announced that Kurt Angle would be the pre-order bonus character for WWE 2K18, making his first WWE video-game appearance since Smackdown vs. Raw 2007.[8] For the third installment in a row, the roster will be the largest included in the series at launch.[9]
Gameplay
Similar to its predecessors, WWE 2K18 is a professional wrestling game. For the first time since WWF SmackDown! Just Bring It, eight wrestlers will be able to be in a match at once (previous games capped the number at 6.)[9] The Royal Rumble match has been retooled this year, with new mechanics, finishers and elimination sequences.[9] A carry system will be introduced, allowing players to pick up or drag their opponent and place them in a specific spot.[9]
Game Modes
Improvements have been made to the creation suite, including an enhanced highlight system. The Create-a-match feature, last seen in WWE '12, has returned.[9]
Fighting styles are introduced in the MyPlayer career mode, letting players chose between eight different fighting styles, with each style having it's own strengths and weaknesses.[9]
A new mode, called the "Road To Glory" Mode enables players to use their MyPlayer characters to qualify and compete in events, similar to the one found in WWE SuperCard.[9]
Universe mode has been improved with a new story system, alongside new cut-scenes, power-rankings and a goal system.[9]
Commentary & Graphics
2K18 will feature new commentary team consisting of Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves. Crowd sound will be also improved and will feature authentic crowd chants. It will also feature a brand new graphics engine, which will enhance the camera system and improves lightning, textures and character models.[9]
