Duke Kunshan University is a university offering academic programs for International students and students from China.[2] It was established by Sino-American partnership of Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, United States) and Wuhan University (Wuhan, Hubei, China). Students are offered degrees from Duke University and Duke Kunshan. The undergraduate academic program spans two continents – in Kunshan and a two-semester experience at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.[3]

Administration and organization

Duke Kunshan University is governed by an independent Board of Trustees.[4] Liu Jingnan is the Chancellor of Duke Kunshan University. Denis Simon is the Executive Vice Chancellor. Haiyan Gao is the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Duke Kunshan University, and is also the Henry Newson professor of physics at Duke University.

Academics

Duke Kunshan University offers an Undergraduate Global Learning Semester program and Master's programs in Medical Physics, Global Health, Environmental Policy and Management Studies.

In August 2018, Duke Kunshan is scheduled to launch its four-year bachelor’s degree program based in the liberal-arts-and-science tradition. The undergraduate academic program initially offers 8 majors:[5] Material Science/Physics; Political Economy/Political Science; Environmental Science/Chemistry; Environment Science-Public Policy; Global China Studies/History; Global Health/Public Policy; Global Health Biology; Applied Math and Computation/Math. Additional majors are under development, including humanities majors that integrate history, philosophy, literature, and the arts, as well as social science majors integrating economics, sociology, anthropology, and psychology. By the time the inaugural class declares majors in 2020, there will be around 20 majors.[6]

In 2017, Duke Kunshan University selected Oracle Student Cloud to support student recruitment, enrollment and engagement.[7]

Campus

Duke Kunshan is located in a 200-acre campus in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, China. The City of Kunshan is located in close proximity to both Shanghai and Suzhou, two of the largest metropolitan areas in China.[8]

Conferences

  • International meteorite conference, Meteorite China - Duke Kunshan university hosted China's first-ever international meteorite conference on 15 September 2017. Over 80 scientists from China, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and Russia met at the three-day event. Enthusiasts and meteorite collectors also participated in the conference.[10]
