Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Maybe this should be posted in edit warring? regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Fleetham (talkcontribs) 09:20, 1 February 2011

Hi there! I was just wondering where in the university template documentation it says a name logo is not allowed because I haven't heard that before. Thanks. Malayy (talk) 05:56, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

See {{Infobox university}}. The purpose of the logo field is "For a (closely-)related athletics/sports logo, corporate emblem or similar graphic." Listing the name again, though it may be in a fancy font, does not seem to me to be the purpose of the field. It is also very non-standard, as I am not aware of a single other university article in India with a repeat of the name again under the logo field (be it in a fancy font or not). --Muhandes (talk) 19:14, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the uni pages I have seen have the wordmark or the wordmark and the seal/coat of arms aside it. That wordmark is the official one of MU but I see what you mean. Maybe this one would work? Malayy (talk) 23:37, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking about universities in India, an area which is supposedly under (the much less active than in the past) WP:INEI. Generally (my guess would be 98% or more) these 800ish articles do not have wordmarks, making this very non-standard (and maybe unique). Personally, I don't see how a wordmark which uses the same iconography and some text adds to the article. I think the purpose of the logo field is to add additional iconography and not text. Knowing the other articles under WP:INEI, it opens up the gate for a multitude of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS which will need to be handled in the future. Having said that, I am trying to care less, so if you insist on adding it, I would suggest at least a quick discussion at WT:INEI about guidelines for adding wordmarks in the logo field. If such guidelines already exist for general university articles, I would be happy to adopt them. That way we can set a general WP:CONSENSUS to follow in the future. --Muhandes (talk) 10:37, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see what you mean. I agree, it doesn't really add to the page. Indian universities have their own unique system and should be treated as such. Seeing as most are affiliated to a larger university, I feel like a picture of the affiliated university/college would better (e.g. King's College, Cambridge). Thanks for the detailed response! Malayy (talk) 19:07, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lay off the NALSAR page

I don't know what your motives are. Stop keeping the NALSAR page so starved of information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.83.207.111 (talk) 18:59, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My motives are to make a better encyclopedia. Please stop edit warring and join the effort. Discuss changes on the talk page instead.--Muhandes (talk) 19:03, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NALSAR

The following is what I want included: - Just like with the Harvard Law School Wikipedia page, I would like to see NALSAR's flagship programme mentioned in the lead, along with information like number of students, method of admission and so on. - I want it to be reflected in the lead that it is typically only less than the top 99th percentile scorers in CLAT are admitted to the university. The competence of the university is a very important detail readers would want to know about. - I would like a mention of the university's ranking in the lead. This seems pretty standard and obvious. - I would like to see a more fleshed out description of the BA.LL.B program. You keep edit warring by removing it for no reason. - I do not understand your obsession with mentioning that the university is residential right at the beginning. It is not important information. You are actively blocking efforts to improve the Wikipedia page of one of India's best law schools. This page looks pathetic compared to some of the best law schools in the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.83.207.111 (talk) 19:13, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to an article should be discussed on the article's talk page, not on my private talk page, so I'll only answer the things that do belong here, and with your permission move the discussion about changes to the article to its appropriate place. In general, the suggestions you made are mostly good suggestions. If you have bothered to discuss things, rather than edit war, the article would have already looked much better. I also recommend opening an account, it is easier than to discuss things with an IP address that keeps changing. --Muhandes (talk) 19:21, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have created an account. I had already posted in the talk section of the page. Keep in mind that you have deleted without any discussion or consensus -Helium1984 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helium1984 (talkcontribs) 19:29, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia Helium1984. Everyone is allowed (actually expected) to make the changes they believe should be made. If someone objects by reverting, one is required to follow WP:BRD. As my changes were never reverted, there was nothing to discuss. --Muhandes (talk) 19:55, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Engage on the NALSAR talk page

I have posted a copy of my message to you in the NALSAR talk page. Please participate there by explaining why each of the points I had mentioned - all of which I had added into the article - were removed by you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helium1984 (talkcontribs) 19:38, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Helium1984: Please sign your comments. I responded at Talk:Nalsar University of Law, these are all good ideas which I approve. By the way, titling the section "Muhandes" rather than "proposed changes" and calling me "Somebody by the name of 'Muhandes'" (do I call you "Somebody by the name of 'Helium1984'"?) might be considered offensive. I leave it to you to decide if you want these comments to remain. --Muhandes (talk) 20:03, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewing

Hello, Muhandes.

As one of Wikipedia's most experienced Wikipedia editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 04:33, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of college listing from List of Educational Institutions of Lucknow

Hi

This is with reference to your message to me reproduced below..

Hello, I'm Muhandes. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to List of educational institutions in Lucknow have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Muhandes (talk) 19:55, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Please let me know the specific reason for the removal.

Thank you Anant — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anant 69 (talkcontribs) 06:25, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Anant 69: it might not have been your intention, but you added an external links against policy. I restored your edit without the external links. --Muhandes (talk) 20:19, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Anant 69: and now you clarified that one of the institutes you added is not even in Lucknow and does not belong in the list. --Muhandes (talk) 19:53, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

sudhir k jain wikipedia page

Hi Muhandes

Can you help me?

I have created a page for Prof Sudhir K jain.

It is in my drafts. Now i don't know how to go about submitting it. Nowhere can i see any option for submitting the draft.

what should i do now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vandana.iitgn (talkcontribs) 09:47, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vandana.iitgn: From your talk page it seems like you found out how to submit your draft. If I'm wrong feel free to ask again. --Muhandes (talk) 20:23, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Muhandes: Hi. I am trying to create a Wikipedia age for Sudhir Jain, as mentioned earlier. He is an earthquake engineer of global repute. I haven't created any Wikipedia pages previously and thus might not be very aware of the rules. I need your help in making it a professional and authentic page before submitting it for review again. I tried submitting it once but it was probably very unprofessional one.

Could you please help? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sudhir_K_Jain — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vandana.iitgn (talkcontribs) 07:26, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vandana.iitgn: Please sign your comments. It looks like its going in the right direction. Assuming the person is notable, which I didn't check, in my opinion the most important thing is to rewrite the lead in a neutral way and avoid puffery. Avoid statements that cannot be proven like "eminent", "passionate", "globally renowned" etc. See MOS:OPENPARA on how an opening paragraph should look like. State the notability early, clearly and in a dispassionate manner. The second thing would be to remove all facts which you don't have reliable sources for. An example would be the entire IIT Kanpur section. Again, rewrite it all in a factual, dispassionate manner and avoid terms like "Jain made distinguishing contributions", " "Jain has experimented with numerous ideas in curriculum" etc. unless you have a reliable secondary sources for them. Other things you should improve include the header level (use ==, not ===) and the "see also" section which does not follow WP:SEEALSO. There are also some external links, remove them all. Have fun. --Muhandes (talk) 09:18, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Vandana.iitgn (talk) 09:39, 5 December 2017 (UTC) Thanks! This is great feedback! I will try to improve the article based on this feedback. Great help Muhandes :)[reply]

Question.

How to redirect a page over a redirect? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumitsharaf (talkcontribs) 08:53, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sumitsharaf: Please sign your messages. Can you please be more specific? What article do you want to redirect and where? --Muhandes (talk) 09:21, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Enquiry

(Sumitsharaf (talk) 10:07, 6 December 2017 (UTC)) I want to redirect KIIT University to Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology because the university has changed its name to its original name Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. But the problem is that Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology is redirect page for KIIT University, So can you help me to guide about how to deal with situation where the target page exist already or is redirect page of the source page.[reply]

Since a direct move is impossible, you need to request a move. I did it already so no need to do it again. --Muhandes (talk) 18:12, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Sumitsharaf: The requested move was declined due to a discussion eight years ago which changed the name. I started discussion here so if you support the move, add your opinion in the usual manner. --Muhandes (talk) 07:17, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request at RM/TR declined

Hello there. Your request at WP:RM/TR to move KIIT University to Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology has been declined as ineligible, as a move discussion has taken place in the past, and is the reason why the article is at its current title. If you would still like the article moved, then feel free to start a request for move discussion on the article's talk page. See WP:RM for more details. Thank you. SkyWarrior 20:36, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SkyWarrior: I didn't notice this old discussion, it was eight years ago. Circumstances have changed and the institute was forced to rename.[1] I will follow procedure and initiate discussion. --Muhandes (talk) 07:06, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NMIMS edit

Hey, the editing done by me for SVKM's NMIMS is done by taking info from its official website So, its fully relevant. So, I made the changes to make the university's Wikipedia page look better and more informative. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nirvana dreamer (talkcontribs) 19:22, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Nirvana dreamer: There were five major issues with your edits. First, you introduced copyright protected material, even though you were warned about this before. This is you last warning, we take copyright very seriously and this behaviour will not be tolerated. Second, you removed sources which are needed for verification. Third, you introduced material and did not cite any reliable source for it. Secondary and independent sources are preferred. Fourth, you introduced material which does not follow a neutral point of view and is largely promotional. This is no surprise since you copy pasted it from the website (see first issue, this also violated copyrights) which is promotional in its nature. Finally, you introduced a hefty number of manual of style violations for example using underlines, replacing a word with a number (eighth with 8th), inserting text before {{main}} and so on. What I suggest is to use the links I provided on your talk page and here to learn more about these subjects or your edits will keep being reverted, and you may be blocked from editing if you keep doing them. --Muhandes (talk) 20:07, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Sumitsharaf (talk) 07:34, 13 December 2017 (UTC) It is about Government Engineering College, Raipur and National Institute of Technology, Raipur. As NIT Raipur was formerly known as GEC Raipur after that Government of India converted it into NIT so as the fact NIT Raipur was sometime GEC Raipur, so in order to clarify i added not to be confused with NIT Raipur in GEC Raipur article.[reply]

@Sumitsharaf: I see, if that is the case there is indeed justification to add a hatnote, and I will do it, but I looked in the article and there is no mention in the text that it was ever called Government Engineering College, Raipur. Can you provide a reliable source? By the way, signatures go at the end of the comment, see WP:TILDE. --Muhandes (talk) 18:32, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I need help

Yesterday on 13 December 2017, i created Delhi Public School which is very famous Higher secondary school for its academic records and facilities. Is Delhi Public School, Korba not suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. HindWIKI has proposed deletion for this page. But never want that page will get deleted. Please do something and prevent page from deletion. 02:03, 14 December 2017 (UTC) Sumitsharaf (talk) 02:03, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sumitsharaf: I can't help you if you don't provide the sources. If it is indeed a very famous Higher secondary school for its academic records and facilities I'm sure you can find reliable secondary independent sources to show it. I searched news announcements and found none which will be enough to satisfy WP:GNG, but maybe you can find other sources like a book written about it or some other reliable source. --Muhandes (talk) 08:43, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, in case this wasn't clear, sources don't have to be online and don't have to be in English. The requirement is only that they be reliable, secondary and independent of the subject matter. A book is a very good source. --Muhandes (talk) 09:01, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hi, Thanks for welcoming me. I didn't understand why did you revert my edits on the Jamia Millia Islamia University page? Thanks again. Hmanburg (talk) 12:55, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hmanburg: Hi Hmanburg. WP:ALUMNI requires two things for adding a person to a list of alumni (or any other list). They need to be notable and their membership needs to be verifiable. Your edit did not supply either of this. Judging notability from just one source is usually impossible and contestable. We therefore usually write the article first as proof of notability. Then, any reliable source can be used for verifying membership in the list. I hope this helps. --Muhandes (talk) 13:50, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question.

Thanks a lot. That clarified it a lot. The name I added has I think over 50 articles in coverage on reputed news sites.

I saw the said person in a half page interview in livemint and decided to add him.

I don't know if I can create an article since I have just started. I have read the notability criteria and I think that would be satisfied.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond! Hmanburg (talk) 16:20, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hmanburg: For academics we have a more specific guideline, though of course if the general notability guidelines are satisfied, it should be enough. You can try the article wizard, it should give you hints on how to start. I'd offer to help, but I'm not an expert on biographies, definitely not on scientists from India. I do however know an editor who is an expert on the subject, so let me know if you wish to try and I will ask him if he can help you. --Muhandes (talk) 17:32, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I may have phrased myself in an awkward and confusing manner. The said person is actually in business.

He is the CEO of amplus energy solutions.

You have an expertise on a very wide variety of topics. I can dig up all the references required for the page. Maybe you could help out?

Thanks a lot for your time! Hmanburg (talk) 04:01, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, it wasn't your phrasing which was awkward, it was me who confused this with someone else. The number of of articles is of less importance than the depth of coverage. Why don't you take the first cut at this article and I will assist after you have the first draft? Use the article wizard, it will guide you through the process. Check out MOS:BIO and WP:BDD. Don't worry about making mistakes, you will write the article in your sandbox and we will move it to the main space only when it is ready. --Muhandes (talk) 07:22, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken the first cut on the article. It's here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sanjeev_Aggarwal. Any feedback/suggestions? Hmanburg (talk) 14:26, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hmanburg: I improved the citation formatting a bit. As I said, I don't do much biographies, so I don't know if what you wrote is enough to establish notability. There does not seem to be much depth of coverage in the sources you provided, and they are only two sources, you implied there were many more. --Muhandes (talk) 16:29, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there are many more. I just put together a very quick draft. I'll get to it. Thanks for helping out! Hmanburg (talk) 16:35, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hmanburg: well then, you are on the right path. The tone is neutral and the structure is sound. Add more sources about his early life and his career. Remember to a sentence at the lead with the most notable thing he did. --Muhandes (talk) 16:39, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Man You Just Removed Programmes List from EMEA College Of Arts and Science. You Said don't list programmes.Without Listing programmes people can't understand whether it is an Arts and science college or not. What should I do to show the programmes available in that college ? . Check this page also they have listed programmes, remove their list also https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullamussalam_Science_College Rishad Pkn (talk) 20:36, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rishad Pkn: Per WP:UNIGUIDE do not attempt to list every major, degree, or program. Readers can understand it's an arts and science college from the name: it is called "EMEA College of Arts and Science". Furthermore, the list of departments which I added also illustrates it. --Muhandes (talk) 18:07, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I removed the list from the other page as well. --Muhandes (talk) 18:36, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Man Principal has changed in 2016 and Dr Abdulla MP is now incumbent principal, but their website didnt updated since 2016,I am currently studying in this college.I recommend you not to edit this article, because you dont know nothing about this college.Dont trust their website details it were hacked by someone 6 months ago, still there is plenty of mistakes in their website.I hope you understood what i told. Edit for IIT Ropar, December 17

Hi,

You had left me a message, which is reproduced below:

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Please don't add Indic scripts, per WP:INDICSCRIPT Muhandes (talk) 08:59, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

I had added the motto of the college in Sanskrit, as it originally is. Also a translation is provided in English. Although I am new to editing in Wikipedia, I believe that writing in Indic script in such cases should be allowed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shubhams123 (talkcontribs) 10:26, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Shubhams123: please sign your comments. As I said already in the comment I left you, per MOS:INDICSCRIPT, Indic scripts should not be added to the lead section or the infobox. --Muhandes (talk) 12:23, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rupendrafest: Please sign your comments. I appreciate that you have a source for every fact you added. I assume you mean well. However, adding data which cannot be verified is worse than having no data at all. The fact that the article already has such data is no excuse. Listing the sources at my talk page is not helpful, I assume you have those sources. You need to cite the source at the article, and if the fact is disputed or may be someday disputed, you need inline citation. See Help:Footnotes or Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor if you use the VisualEditor. --Muhandes (talk) 13:17, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit for Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology

Good evening sir, I am Parth Agarwal of batch 2011-2015 from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. Recently I have made some additions regarding the college, which were reverted saying that the link was not there. It is to apprise that all the details have been picked from the college's website (www.mnnit.ac.in), which has already been mentioned as a source. Hence it is authentic and can be updated for the college on wiki as well.

Thus it would be great if the undo of the changes can be reverted.

Thanking you Yours sincerely Parth Agarwal MNNIT ALLAHABAD 2011-2015
