Want to help shape the future of the Wikipedia editing experience?

Hi Loooke,

The Design Research team at the Wikimedia Foundation is currently seeking relatively newcomer Wikipedians for user studies about their experience with current editing tools and to test out some prototype editing tools. If you’re interested in helping to shape the future of editing on Wikipedia, we would love to have you participate! The study session will take approximately 30 minutes, maximum of 45 minutes.

The study will take place in the next couple weeks, and will require participants to have access to a webcam and microphone (or a laptop with built in cam & mic), with a quiet place to go for a research session. To participate, please email dchen[at]wikimedia.org and include the following information:

  • Username
  • Email where we can reach you
  • Your city or time zone
  • Best time to talk to you

Please let me know if you have any questions! Look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Daisy Chen

Reference errors on 23 December

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that some edits performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. They are as follows:

Please check these pages and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:22, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Page blanking

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to Pr0201-b. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed.

But anyhow, happy Christmas! :) — Smjg (talk) 01:51, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

HotCat

You might like to try the HotCat gadget, activated in your preferences, on the gadgets tab, editing section. Inline editing and autocomplete of categories, very fast and convenient. Apologies if you already knew about it and don't like it. Lithopsian (talk) 18:39, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So, when are you going to fix the discovery dates? It's a serious problem and if I reverted your edits, it'd be justifiable. Holy Goo (talk) 12:04, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, revert what edits? I'm fixing the discovery dates right now, in stages, for example this edit. Loooke (talk) 19:37, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On this subject, when you update the main page, would you mind updating my user subpage(s) as well? I needed a proof-of-concept before getting final opinions and going "live". They're split by year as mentioned in the various talk page discussions, so it might need moving from one page to another if a year is wrong. Thanks! Primefac (talk) 16:46, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Primefac, I'll try to do what I can. However, since I've fixed all the dates, and made a few changes since then, it may be easier to split the page entirely again. (Sorry.) Loooke (talk) 19:27, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your Starbox astrometry edit

This edit created some peculiar additions to some of the infoboxes: ?'"`UNIQ−-ref-00000008-QINU`"'?. See for example Tau Ceti. Praemonitus (talk) 15:24, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was WP:BOLD and reverted your edits to this template because it messed up too many pages. Praemonitus (talk) 20:23, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, sorry about the attempt. My goal was to have the template automatically replace hyphens with minus signs, like the {{DEC}} template. If done correctly it would enable you to type, for example, -3 instead of −3. I noticed it did cause the weird unicode error, but I looked back and couldn't fix the error. If you can properly implement this, please go ahead! Loooke (talk) 11:33, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it should do the opposite, per MOS:MINUS. Please see the next post. Thanks. Praemonitus (talk) 14:53, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I know. What I meant by the previous sentence was that the hyphen in the -3 (which is incorrect) would automatically be replaced with a minus sign (which is correct). The edit to {{Starbox astrometry}} was intended to make editing easier so that one wouldn't have to type "−" every time a minus sign was needed. Thanks. Loooke (talk) 23:23, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I understood your intention. This looks related to the error message: Help:Lua_for_beginners#Issues_with_the_current_implementation. Thank you. Praemonitus (talk) 17:04, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Minus HTML symbol

Note that there is an HTML symbol for the minus (− = −) that is different than a dash. We should be using the former, not the latter. See MOS:MINUS. Praemonitus (talk) 20:18, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page move

Hello. I did a page move that I thought would be helpful with a simpler nomenclature per naming conventions. The new (and current) title is P/2006 VW139. After looking at all the links to the former page title and then looking at the infobox I have decided this may not have been a good idea. It seems to be a new page, according to the edit history, which is all I looked at prior to making the move. However, there are a large number of links to the former page title in "What links here".

I am requesting admin help by moving this back [1], and I will seek consensus for a name change on the talk page later. I don't want to cause a disruption to WikiProject Astronomy by having carried out this action. And I apologize to you for not being more careful in this instance. 2017 Nobel Peace Prize article

Thanks again for placing the "expand section' template on October 9th in the Reactions section. Now that it has been expanded, would you please take a look to determine whether it sufficiently responds to the expansion request? Litjade (talk) 14:43, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me. Thank you! Loooke (talk) 19:53, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BD+03 2562 article

Thanks for your edits on the article, BD+03 2562. But where was your reference when you added that the star is part of the constellation Virgo? I-CANT-THINK-OF-USERNAME! (talk) 00:28, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I used this site which takes the coordinates of the system and outputs the constellation that it's in. I didn't cite the source because it's implicit in the coordinates (11 50 15.5527 +02 45 36.472). Also, most other articles on stars (like Sirius, Vega, Rigel etc.) don't say the reference. Loooke (talk) 00:31, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2018 Exoplanets

I've created Draft:List of exoplanets discovered in 2018 for when there's actually data. Nothing there at the moment obviously but when there is it'll save you a bit of time :) Thanks for doing the legwork on keeping these pages updated! Primefac (talk) 13:12, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah, thanks for the new draft! Loooke (talk) 20:34, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of nearest galaxies, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Andromeda (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).

NGC 3545B

You do know it isn't listed on the page you redirected to? Might make it harder to defend when the people who just voted to keep it as an article come complaining. Or not: I think only the creator was really excited about the article. Lithopsian (talk) 19:59, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

True. I've updated the page so it includes NGC 3545B, as well as NGC 3545. Loooke (talk) 22:51, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for your work on the List_of_nearest_galaxies -- i love that page, but i never seem to have time to update it any more. Good to see someone else has picked up the baton for now.
