Before debuting as a member of BTS, Jungkook had taken part in the Superstar K3 auditions in his hometown, Busan, in 2011 (where he sang IU’s ‘Lost Child’) but unfortunately failed to pass the elimination round because . On the way back home, he received offers from eight different entertainment agencies which included one of the big three entertainment companies of South Korean, JYP Entertainment and other companies such as FNC Entertainment, DSP Media Entertainment, Starship Entertainment, TS Entertainment, Cube Entertainment, Woolim Entertainment and finally his current agency BigHit Entertainment. He had chosen BigHit over the rest because:

"I thought RM-hyung was so cool, so I wanted to sign with them [BigHit]. I told my parents I wanted to join, and so I signed." - BTS's Jungkook

And later on became a BigHit trainee.

2011-2013:Trainee Life

BTS members have often said that Jungkook refused to sing when asked to, he'd often end up crying or it'll take around thirty minutes until he'd finally sing. When he was fourteen years it old, he had travelled to America with current BTS performance director and main choreographer Sun Song-deuk to learn dance. He stayed in America for around a month where he learned how to b-boy and break dance. Young Jungkook had fallen in love with dance and was so impressed with Song-deuk dancing that he was determined to quit being a trainee and become his dance apprentice but his fellow BTS member Jimin had stopped him from doing so. It was also revealed that Jungkook had cried when he heard that J-Hope was going to leave BigHit during their YouTube Red Reality Series Burn The Stage.

Although he isn't as heavily activate in the production of their music as the three others members, Jungkook has often expressed his desire to produce his own song all by himself which he has done in their third album Love Yourself: Tear where he produced an EDM track called Magic Shop, which was a song dedicated to their loyal fanbase, A.R.M.Y(Adorable MC For the Youth).
