Welcome
Hello Slotmachiner and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your contributions, such as the ones to Sonny Gray, do not conform to our policies. For more information on this, see Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and limits on acceptable additions. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox (but beware that the contents of the sandbox are deleted frequently) rather than in articles.
If you still have questions, there is a new contributors' help page, or you can to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.
I hope you enjoy editing and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~

Hello, I'm HickoryOughtShirt?4. I noticed that you made one or more changes to an article, Carlos Mendoza (baseball), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:22, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
Please do not add or change content, as you did at Carlos Mendoza (baseball), without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:25, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Krippendorff
Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.
Hello, Slotmachiner. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.Deb (talk) 15:31, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi. This is not about whether Krippendorff is notable, although you do have to include reliable references to demonstrate that he is - see Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Verifiability. It is about the promotional wording in the article you created. That needs to change in order to make the article acceptable under the neutral point of view policy. If you don't understand what was wrong with it, I would suggest that you use your sandbox to work on it. Deb (talk) 16:09, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Kaihan Krippendorff
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Kaihan Krippendorff, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of https://kaihan.net/about/. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 16:12, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi Sky - thanks for your help. I worked on it in the sandbox and just updated the page. Let me know what you think. I have also reached out and made contact with Kaihan's assistant who is going to give permission to use their material and also send some pictures/headshots I can add to the page!!
Let me know what else you think it needs. Thank you so much for your help!
- Definitely DO NOT get involved with someone who works for Krippendorff. DO NOT use material from his personal promotional sources. It will only get you into more trouble and you could be blocked for an undisclosed COI. Deb (talk) 17:24, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Heard you loud and clear. I will let them know that I do not need it. I believe I have found outside sources for everything at this point anyway. Nothing like a few hours of google research to find what you need!
How to write an article that doesn't get deleted
If you're going to write an article about anyone or anything, here's the steps you should follow:
- 1) Gather as many professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources you can find.
- 2) Focus on just the ones that are not dependent upon or affiliated with the subject, but still specifically about the subject and providing in-depth coverage (not passing mentions). If you do not have at least three such sources, the subject is not yet notable and trying to write an article at this point will only fail.
- 3) Summarize those sources from step 2, adding citations at the end of them. You'll want to do this in a program with little/no formatting, like Microsoft Notepad or Notepad++, and not in something like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer.
- 4) Combine overlapping summaries (without arriving at new statements that no individual source supports) where possible, repeating citations as needed.
- 5) Paraphrase the whole thing just to be extra sure you've avoided any copyright violations or plagiarism.
- 6) Use the Article wizard to post this draft and wait for approval.
- 7) Expand the article using sources you put aside in step 2 (but make sure they don't make up more than half the sources for the article, and make sure that affiliated sources don't make up more than half of that).
Doing something besides those steps typically results in the article not being approved, or even in its deletion. Ian.thomson (talk) 18:13, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
