inclusion of malayalam name in a malayali article

Hi Challiyan! A name in the native language is added only when it is any different than in English, and not just writing the exact same name in the native language. For ex: Jackie Chan's name in Chinese is 陈港生, which translates to Chén gǎng shēng, and not 'Jackie Chan' (as in English). See Native name. Editor5454 (talk) 08:26, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, But there are lots of articles related to India that use transliteration. I have found that such transliterations are providing search results when regional language is used. for example ਤੇਜੀ ਬਚੱਨ returns English wiki links while പി.റ്റി.ഉഷ returns only regional language link. If പി.റ്റി.ഉഷ is not present in ml.wiki, this search result wouldnt even be showing. what is your opinion? --Challiyan (talk) 21:05, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I've been doing it for a while now of links from websites that seem 'temporary'. I don't archive links of a newspaper website when I cite them as references. It's a pity when these get lost / changed. Also, when I archive links from The Hindu, which is my most preferred 'source', in archive.org, it takes a lot of time to generate an archived link and I find it very strenuous, and so mostly avoid. --Editor5454 (talk) 13:34, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I can see there are some confusions about man of the match tables. I have to say that, there are certain formats to enter these tables. For that, just say you must add the balls he faced, the boundaries and also if he is an all-rounder, the bowling performances, etc to the match performance column. You cant just say he scored 100 runs. It is incomplete. And also for the result, you added just won or lost. But we don't know how the player affected for the match. His team won by smaller margin or a greater margin due to his performance. So you must add them also. Another thing, the centuries, fifers and others are not grouped into single area. They must divided as centuries, international record, international awards, etc. SO if you can provide and edit the tables according to them, I appreciate it. Gihan Jayaweera, I certainly appreciate your efforts. But, I do not think the lists were "incomplete" like you term them. Here is an good example of what I believe is an appropriate and to-the-point listing of a cricketer's achievements (in non-prosal form). The 'Player of the match' award is awarded for one's performance in terms of runs scored / wickets taken etc. and not for the number of boundaries hit. Including the number of balls faced in the columns is still reasonable, so as to indicate the rate of scoring. The impact of the said performances on the team's performance in the corresponding game should be indicated in the 'Result' column with just a 'win'/'loss' etc. Any mention of the margin of win/loss is appropriate in a tournament page and not in a cricketer's achievement-listing column. Secondly, these statistics could be brought under one single section — "Achievements", rather than two (one each for centuries and man-of-the-match awards), like the one you've made. Thanks. Editor5454 Yes your point is good and fair. But just see, if we divide the column into centuries, fifers separately rather describing in achievements, it is really troublesome to the viewer. The viewer may be from a cricketing country or away from it. So, if we can divide them, it is easy to read and show what is about this player. Unless it is not user friendly. The inclusion of flag icons to the tables was from a previous discussion from previous editors. Not by me. Column separation is also according to them. I think it is the most user friendly thing. Wikipedia should be user friendly and must be able to use by any age person. So, it is your wish to do anything. I will go with more user-friendly method. GihanJ (talk) 8:33, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

My only point of disagreement is the excess in details mentioned in these columns, like the margin of win/loss, boundaries scored etc. and yes, the unnecessary flag icons too. Would you kindly stop reverting on this page. Cricketers and umpires, contrary to what you put as your reason for editing, always appear on scorecards with their initials rather than their full names. These are potted scorecards. Marplesmustgo, shortened names are written on scorecards due to lack of space. You would not want to write Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas on a scorecard, would you? Or would you rather write WPUJC Vaas? On Wikipedia, as per WP:CRIC#STYLE, we mention cricketers or umpires by names they are well known by. Hence, Chaminda Vaas! This should be clear. I am hardly just copying scorecards; it takes effort to generate the potted scores on here from a full scorecard.
