Yuhua Hamasaki, or formerly known as Yuhua, is the stage name of gender-neutral performer Yuhua Ou[1] an American drag queen and television personality, best known for competing on the tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, and placing ninth.

Early life

Ou was born on March 1, 1990 [2] in Guangzhou, China. She later moved to New York when she was 7, and started doing drag in the club kid scene under the name Yuhua, she later added Hamasaki after Japanese idol Ayumi Hamasaki.

Ou grew up in New York's Chinatown as a young immigrant, and after not fitting in with her school, she started sneaking into gay clubs at the age of 15. Her dream became to be a representative for the Asian-American community[3]

Ou holds a business management degree from Pace University, one of the few drag queens with a full degree with a non-performance degree. [4]

Career

Ou was announced as one of fourteen contestants for the tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2018.[5] She was eliminated in the third episode after losing a lip sync to "Celebrity Skin" by Hole against Mayhem Miller.[6].

Outside of Drag Race, Ou has made appearances for the WOWPresents internet series "Fashion Photo Ruview" filling in for either Raja and Raven, reviewing looks from Drag Race alumni. Her first appearance was on June 9, 2016.[7].

Ou has also appeared on various television programmes including Big Ang, The Carrie Diaries, Blue Bloods, and Saturday Night Live with Katy Perry.[8] [9].

Ou has a wealth of pageant titles under her belt, most significantly Miss Fire Island, Miss Fire Island All Stars, Miss Stonewall, and Miss Asia NYC. She is known for her high-energy performances, and seamstress skills.[10].

Yuhua Hamasaki is known in her community for being supportive for fellow up and coming Queens including Aja, Miz Cracker, and winner of the same season, Aquaria[11][12].
