Personal life

P Jayrajan was born on 27 November 1952 to Kunhiraman and Devi at Kathirur. Jayarajan's wife Yamuna is the secretary of Kuthuparamba Cooperative Rural Bank. He has two sons Jain Raj and Asish P Raj. P. Sathidevi, CPI (M) state committee member and former MP from Vadakara, is his sister.

Political career

Jayarajan's entry to political sphere was through the students’ movement. He served as the district secretary and president of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) for several years. He became a member of the CPI(M) in 1972. He was the area secretary of CPM at Koothuparamba for 10 years. Later, he was elected a member of the Kannur district secretariat. Jayarajan was inducted in the state committee at the state conference of the party held in Palakkad in 1998. He was appointed the acting secretary of the CPI(M) Kannur district committee in December 2010 and in 2011 as the district secretary. Jayarajan was re-elected to the post in the conferences held at Payyanur in 2012 and Koothuparamba in 2015.

Trade Union Leadership

Jayarajan was formerly the president of the CITU, Kannur district committee. He has also rendered service as the president of Rubco Employees Union, the president of Aralam Farm Workers Union and as president of Kuthuparamba Area Head load Workers Union.

A Survivor of RSS Violence

P. Jayarajan is a living martyr of brutal RSS attack. When the people of Kerala were celebrating the national festival of the state Onam in 1999 a group of armed criminals barged into his house and fatally attacked him. He suffered severe wounds in spinal cord, chest and limbs. As he was immediately rushed to the hospital and proper medical care was given by expert doctors without delay Jayarajan survived, though permanently loosing the mobility of his right hand. Jayarajan's fearlessness and incomparable mental stability was proven during the days when he underwent treatment.

Cracks in BJP: A Tactical Victory

CPI (M) workers and sympathisers see Jayarajan as a leader with extra ordinary ability to coordinate all the day-to-day activities of the party with extreme care and diligence. He could make his inspiring presence felt in all the activities of the party in the district. The greatest of Jayarajan's political victories is the bringing of BJP leaders, including BJP ex-district president O. K. Vasu and A. Ashokan along with a large number of their followers into the folds of the CPI (M). This helped the party in strengthening its roots and widen mass base in areas like Kuthuparamba, Panoor, Parat and Cheruvancherry.

Philanthropic Mission

During his tenure as the district president of the CPI (M) Jayarajan could give impetus to party workers to involve in many philanthropic activities to lend a helping hand to the needy irrespective of their political affinities. The IRPC (Initiative for Rehabilitation and Palliative Care) which started functioning in 2012 is a great idea put into practice under the leadership of Jayarajan. IRPC's activities span to a variety of areas giving care, solace and hope to thousands of helpless people who are thrown into the depths of miseries owing to grave ailments, utter poverty and many other reasons. Palliative care unit, physiotherapy centre, speech therapy unit, dialysis centre, the project named ‘Kanivu’ that aims at giving training and jobs to the differently abled, ‘Unarvu’ the project to bring about total educational awareness among boys and girls in the tribal hamlets, pre-marital counselling courses all function very effectively under the banner of IRPC. The people of Kannur cutting across the boundaries of political parties unanimously hail Jayarajan for the leadership he gives to the IRPC. He is now the chairman of the advisory committee of the IRPC.
