In April 2018, Paramount Chair and CEO Jim Gianopulos said a sequel to the film was "in the works".[1][2] Screenwriters Bryan Woods and Scott Beck had previously stated that they had begun thinking of ideas and set pieces for a possible second film.[3] By August 2018, Paramount announced the project with John Krasinski returning to write the script, while Platinum Dunes producers Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller returning as producers.[4]

On February 22, 2019, Krasinski announced he would serve as director, while Emily Blunt will reprise her role from the first film and also confirmed the start of pre-production on A Quiet Place Part II via his Twitter social media page.[5]

In February 2019, Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are also in negotiations to reprise their roles.[6] In March 2019, Cillian Murphy joined the cast.[7] In June 2019, Brian Tyree Henry joined the cast.[8]

By June 20, 2019, Paramount Pictures announced that production had officially begun on the film.[9]
