Ward's own comment to the same effect

I now work for New Relic. This has been reported in the local business press: http://www.oregonlive.com/silicon-forest/index.ssf/2013/04/ward_cunningham_inventor_of_th.html -- Ward Cunningham — Preceding undated comment added 16:04, 8 July 2013‎

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Ward Cunningham. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

Date of Birth

WP:DOB says: "Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object. If the subject complains about the inclusion of the date of birth, or the person is borderline notable, err on the side of caution and simply list the year." It also mentions fear of identity theft as one reason to avoid including the exact DOB where there is any question. It is my personal view that this information is not usually encyclopedic and can often be shortened to just the year, even when a source is available. EncMstr, I ask you to consider whether the source you cited constitutes "wide publication" and whether it has encyclopedic value in this article, please. I won't edit war over the matter, of course, but please consider this the discuss phase of a WP:BRD cycle. DES (talk) 23:38, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That is a fair point. I doubt Ward objects to its inclusion and if he did, he would likely remove it himself, or mention something to one of the local community of editors he has met recently: myself, Pete, Llywrch, or Aboutmovies. Let's ask him: @WardCunningham: Any comments? —EncMstr (talk) 01:47, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In 2005 I corrected an error in the birth date and someone purporting to be Ward Cunningham thanked me. If in more than a decade he hasn't raised any objection (or denounced the impostor who used his name), then I think EncMstr's inference is a good one. JamesMLane t c 12:32, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
