FL Status

@Snowflake91, Chiyako92, CookyMooky, and Carlobunnie: I feel like this article is in a good enough state to nominate for featured status. Before I jumped the gun I figured I would tag you as other frequent page editors, in case you feel there are things that still need to be fixed or would like to co-nominate. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 21:28, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think the lead is too long now, and considering that unless something big happens, they will also win every major award in the next 3-4 years which would make it even longer if every award would be mentioned. Maybe ditch music show programs in the last paragraph entirely since they arent even listed in the tables, and those lists like forbes and variety. To compare – BTS has 26 rows of text, Swift has 20, Lady Gaga 19, Ariana Grande 17, Kyle Mingoue 17, Meghan Trainor 10 etc. (out of FL articles) Snowflake91 (talk) 21:55, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Snowflake91: Removed what you suggested other than one sentence mentioning the Time 100, just to have something in the lead that acknowledges that section, and that's the most notable one. Cut down on what I thought were excess details and removed the IFPI thing since that's about record sales and belongs on their albums discography that actually tracks sales. I think that length is OK in comparison to the FLs you mentioned. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 23:10, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thats MUCH better now, the only thing I would still remove is "HotelsCombined", I dont think that temporary sponsored names should be used, use simply "song of the year". Snowflake91 (talk) 23:15, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 23:27, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've nothing more to add to what Snowflake91 has already pointed out. --Chiyako92 13:58, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
By the way, is the infobox image properly licenced? If the YouTube video shows an image, even if the video has "reuse allowed", it wont make it free, this apply only for in-motion screenshots taken from the original video. So basically, if I take a copyrighted image, make a video in which I show this image and set YT video to cc 4.0, that wont make this image free to use, the image was deffinetely not taken by "티비텐 (TV10)" since its all over the web and there is no info that the image is originally from 티비텐 (TV10), or...? Snowflake91 (talk) 22:56, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Snowflake91: TV10 is owned by TenAsia. TenAsia were the original photographers (that's why its watermarked as TenAsia) and then they used their own photograph in the video. So they're allowed to release it under CC. If they had purchased the photo from Getty Images then they wouldn't be allowed to. I actually had this conversation with a License Reviewer on Commons with a different TenAsia file! And understand the confusion. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 04:05, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Just as a follow up: TenAsia links TV10 from their website as part of the list of their socials, which confirms their ownership. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 04:08, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DanielleTH: The lead reads much better now. Good job cutting it down/reorganizing it. Sorry for the late reply, haven't been online much due to irl things. There are 3 references in the table I wanna fix a little (will do it later as I'm heading out now) before we nominate, but other than that, I think we're pretty much ready to go. Carlobunnie (talk) 12:30, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Carlobunnie: Apologies but I ended up nominating it before I got this message. It's here! DanielleTH (Say hi!) 08:00, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DanielleTH, Snowflake91, and Carlobunnie: iheartradio Music awards nomination is out, BTS is nominated for 2 categories ~ Best fans and Best music video LINK I was going to make the edit myself, but then I am afraid that I will make some mistakes and make your workload even more as this page is already nominated for review. So I thought its better if any one of you make this edit.CookyMooky (talk) 17:16, 8 January 2020 (UTC)CookyMooky[reply]

Added. We need Seoul Music Awards nominations next, the noms have been released for quite some time now but no one has added them yet, probably because of sourcing issues Snowflake91 (talk) 12:12, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Snowflake91: Looking for sources rn. Will add to the table shortly. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 17:30, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
On IB Times, what is this "Main Award" category they listed? Is it Record of the Year, or just regular Bonsang? Are Bonsang and Daesang awards even nominated, or just given? Snowflake91 (talk) 23:20, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the sources again, and the SMA page, I think it might be for the Bongsang given how many nominees there are. None of the sources I found on the awards, Korean or English, specify whether it's for a Bongsang or Record of the Year. They all just state 'Main Award', which I initially interpreted as AOTY. Bongsang awards are based on sales, voting and judge's decision, ppl do actually get nominated. I can edit the table to say Bongsang for now since perhaps AOTY is incorrect. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 23:56, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Snowflake91 and Carlobunnie: Yep it is Bonsang award/ Main award. I kind of follow all Korean award shows hence I know about it. All artists are nominated for bonsang, and then out of nominated bonsang awardees, top 10 are given bonsang award on basis of fan votes. Afterwards judges points and album sales etc are taken into consideration and then the main DAESANG award/ Grand award is given out of these 10 bonsang winners. Non-notable awards

I've noted many awards on the article don't have a page on Wikipedia, just citing a note that explain them, which isn't enough. They should be removed..unless they have a page on another language. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 02:33, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard anything like this that if certain awards doesn't have a wikipedia page, they shouldn't be noted. Any award which have proper coverage and is supported from reliable sources & articles can be mentioned. Also with notes given for each & every award, there are clear mentions of the cited sources too. So if you want to furthur check its reliability you can go & check it from there. This page is now in featured list, which means it has been identified as one of the best lists produced & maintained by good & experienced editors, hence I think the format should be left like it is & shouldn't be unnecessarily touched without proper discussion.CookyMooky (talk) 10:10, 16 April 2020
That fails WP:INDISCRIMINATE. All awards listed should have at least a notable organization backing it up, linking an article. Not an indiscriminate list of awards. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There's no policy that states that an award only qualifies as notable if it has a Wikipedia page. The editors who worked on this page selected the awards based on if the award show would meet WP:GNG and WP:ORG, or that the win and the award show were covered by multiple reliable sources. This is especially the case with BTS as most of their awards are Korean and would be less likely to have an English Wikipedia page. All of these awards have major, notable orangizations that back them up, such as the Journalists Association of Korea, Recording Industry Association of Korea and the Korea Music Copyright Association. To say that an award show established by two major Korean music associations fails notability because the awards show doesn't have a Wikipedia presence seems ludicrous to me. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 03:21, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well if the award is held by a notable organization (imagine a notable organization not having a WP page in any language (?)) therefore is notable. That page in any other language can be linked. That's what my previous reply stated.

  • BraVo Music Awards (using a WP:Primary source)
  • Edaily Culture Awards (what's the notable organization behind or something??)
  • The Fact Music Awards (??)
  • Journalists Association of Korea (??)
  • Korea First Brand Awards (??)
  • Korea Popular Music Awards (I guess the Korean Music Assocation mention saves it)
  • Korean Broadcasting Awards (??)
  • Korean Wave Expo

Any of these in Korean WP?

cc: @CookyMooky: @DanielleTH:. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 00:42, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, they should all be removed. Per WP:FILMCRITICLIST, awards included in lists should have a Wikipedia article to demonstrate notability. - Brojam (talk) 04:35, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cornerstonepicker: Hi, sorry for the late reply on this. My WP notifs are very hit or miss. While I understand your concerns, DanielleTH (Say hi!) stated the above in the page's original submission for FLC as to why the awards were included. Improvements to the footnotes+sources to support the notability of these awards were pointed out during FLC reviews, we adjusted accordingly, and they passed muster satisfactorily. I can try to locate additional information/see if I find pages in other languages but it will take time to sift through korean sources. @Brojam: that policy is specifically for articles under the Film category. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 17:31, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

UNICEF Inspire Award

Wanted to inform that BTS won the 2020 UNICEF Inspire Award for their “Love Myself” campaign. Facts Spiller (talk) 05:31, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Facts Spiller: I know, I've just been trying to decide where exactly to put it since I don't know much about the award itself. I have like 6 diff webpages open with info on it since the day I added the Soba 2020 noms. It'll be added soon. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 18:35, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DanielleTH: I'm more inclined to put the Unicef award on the campaign page rather than here on the BTS page based on the various articles I've read. Thoughts? -- Carlobunnie (talk) 02:35, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree. This page is more so about awards BTS themselves received. This award seems more about the campaign and what it did rather than what the members did. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 03:53, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DanielleTH: I'll add it to the campaign article tomorrow then. Can't properly edit on mobile browser right now. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 04:25, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Carlobunnie: Yes, add the award in the Love Myself (campaign) Wiki page. Facts Spiller (talk) 09:16, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Records update + one missing record

Since Boy with Luv records have been daggered, shall we do the same with Map of the Soul: Persona one per consistency, since now the best-selling album in SK is Map of the Soul: 7? Also, I think we should add sources to all the daggered records holders supporting their surpass, since the GDW website takes some time to update (it's still stating Map of the Soul: Persona is the best-selling album in SK after 4 months).

Secondly, one record is missing from the table: First K-pop group to reach the Top 10 on the US singles chart (screenshot here, there's not a link). It's listed on the GWR website, but can only be viewed by registered users through the Record Application Search. --Chiyako92 17:25, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Chiyako92: imo even if MOTS7 has surpassed Persona for the best selling record it still needs official Guinness confirmation of that. The section is for official GWR, not records recognized by everyone else that meet the criteria of a GWR but have not actually been certified as such. I think it's better to wait until GWR update and then update the section, but that's just me.
For the missing record, can we add it in and just include the parameter that allows you to state that viewing access of a particular page is subscription or paywall restricted or whatever the appropriate term is? I've seen it before on articles that use a particular billboard chart iirc that's hidden due to rules abt how it can be accessed. Also, does 'Inactive Record' as seen in the screenshot refer to the fact that it can't be viewed like everything else? -- Carlobunnie (talk) 18:17, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Carlobunnie: Yes, for the missing record we can use the search results page url and the |url-access=registration parameter.
Inactive Record means that users can't apply for the record holder position. All BTS records are listed as inactive, while others such as "Most laptops toppled in a domino fashion" have a green "Apply now" button, and when you click on it you get a message ("Please note: Your application may be referred to our Consultancy team, which manages our paid for services. Referrals are normally made based on the complexity of the record you have chosen or the potential for you to require usage of the Guinness World Records’ brand name and assets. If your application is referred in this way, our consultancy team will contact you directly to find out more about your attempt.") and you are required to fill in a form about how your broke the record. --Chiyako92 08:00, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiyako92: thanks for the explanation. You can add the missing record to the table whenever you're ready :) -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:12, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiyako92: @Carlobunnie: This article was published today [1] on the official Guinness World Records site, which talks about two new records, first for "the best selling album in South Korea for MAP OF THE SOUL:7" which was previously held by Map of the soul: Persona & if you read furthur another record (in year 2019) for "most used hashtag in 24 hours". CookyMooky (talk) 02:00, 6 August 2020
@CookyMooky: that most used hashtag is not a BTS record. Our fandom was just one of the fandoms that helped contribute to it as the article specified. I've only been awake about 50 mins or so now but I saw the GWR twt about MOTS7. You can add it yourself if you want or if you aren't sure, you can wait for one of us to do it. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 15:00, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Carlobunnie: BTS just made it to the the list of Billboard’s 2019 Money Makers list (at 22nd rank) I was wondering if this is important enough to be mentioned in listicles section. The link of the Billboard article for the same [2] here. CookyMooky (talk) 07:15, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@CookyMooky: honestly, I don't think so, but it could maybe be added to the main BTS article. I'm not super knowledgeable on this ranking specifically but I don't think it's as important as the Forbes one. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 21:03, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Carlobunnie: BTS broke the record of highest premiere on Youtube with their latest single dynamite. Link from Variety [3] CookyMooky (talk) 08:51, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@CookyMooky: it's too early to update yet. Those are just live count numbers. I was on the stream for the premiere so I know they broke it but only when YouTube or another source gives official confirmation then we'll update it. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 14:01, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Carlobunnie: I too waited for some credible sources to give official confirmation but than I saw Variety & Forbes articles about the same so I thought of notifying you! Sorry for being a bit hasty. CookyMooky (talk) 15:57, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@CookyMooky: it's okay. Just remember to carefully read the articles first if you can so it helps you know for sure whether it's time to add a record or not yet. The pieces will usually mention whether what they're discussing is official or not. The Variety article literally said "although the official count has yet to come in from the internet video platform..." and Forbes wrote something similar too, so it's always easy to know if they're just pre-empting the inevitable or quoting confirmed stats. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:22, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Carlobunnie: Hi Bighit (BTS Label) and Youtube both just confirmed & posted this NAVER article [4] on their page, about BTS breaking the record of most views in 24 hours & highest Youtube premier record. Youtube too posted this [5] on their official blog site about biggest Youtube premier record. If these articles aren't notable enough, than please let me know, I will try to look for more regarding the same. Thanks! CookyMooky (talk) 10:35, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@CookyMooky: I already added the concurrent viewers record to the dynamite article and Ashley added the mv view record to it after. When Guinness certifies them as new world records then they'll be added to the table. For now they're only YouTube records and this article is not the place for that. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:34, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Carlobunnie: Okay! Got it! Thanks! CookyMooky (talk) 3:40, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
