However, I don't think the salience of the issue is nearly broad enough here as it is in, say, New Zealand, where upwards of 40% of the national population is in favour of officially renaming the country to better reflect the indigenous language.

:I really appreciate the detail put into the Etymology section of the page though, it really helps to frame the city and its geographical context neutrally. I think Mohkinstsis especially is sticking among younger Calgarians, and I could see this becoming normalized here as like ward names in Edmonton. Until then, we'd probably best leave it how it is. Updated history of Calgary

I noticed the history of Calgary was lacking significant details and sources. Although the history I published is not complete and overlooks some key events, I think it is a much better representation of the city. Feel free to add, improve, copyedit, etc.

Infobox bloat

Two editors have attempted to reduce infobox bloat on this page and both been reverted as here [1] by one editor. Main discussion of this is at the Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Infoboxes#City infoboxes and extra parameters, where I and a fourth editor have also argued against infobox bloat. There appears to be a clear editor consensus against this information being in the infobox, and per WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE, "The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance." indigenous names as native names?

not sure if there’s already been a discussion on a different article but i wonder if it would be appropriate to list the native name in the infobox as the name given to the place in the most common indigenous language? i understand english is the most common language in most cities in canada but would it be inappropriate to include a native name MishchaytWiki (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd personally love to see a resurgence in the usage of native names alongside Calgary. However, I don't think the salience of the issue is nearly broad enough here as it is in, say, New Zealand, where upwards of 40% of the national population is in favour of officially renaming the country to better reflect the indigenous language.
I really appreciate the detail put into the Etymology section of the page though, it really helps to frame the city and its geographical context neutrally. I think Mohkinstsis especially is sticking among younger Calgarians, and I could see this becoming normalized here as like ward names in Edmonton. Until then, we'd probably best leave it how it is.
