WP:WikiProject Winter sports
Hello, I was wondering if you were interested in restarting this project you were one of the founders of? I'd like to tag various winter sports properly, so that they can have a collaboration area (such as for the sliding sports, luge, skeleton, etc, or icecross, etc) -- 70.49.127.65 (talk) 05:28, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Revision as of 05:28, 10 July 2012

Interests:

All sports, including curling, hockey, soccer and recently cricket.

A tag has been placed on 2004 World Junior Curling Championships requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 1979 Royal Bank of Scotland World Women's Curling Championship tagged for speedy deletion

An article that you have been involved in editing, 1979 Royal Bank of Scotland World Women's Curling Championship, has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please look there to see why this is, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. BigHairRef | Talk 03:04, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with 1979 Royal Bank of Scotland World Women's Curling Championship. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then please place hangon on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. BigHairRef | Talk 03:12, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Erik Lefebvre

A tag has been placed on Erik Lefebvre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 02:51, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion was not because of one person and one source. It was because the text of the article was copied directly from the source — which violates Wikipedia's copyright policy. If you would like to continue working on the article — the text, minus the copyrighted text can be restored to your userspace where you can work on it. — ERcheck (talk) 03:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've created a personal sandbox page for you — User:Coppercanuck/Sandbox — and restored the content of the article you started, minus the copied text. You can work on the article there and when it is ready, start it in mainspace. I suggest that you re-write the text of the article. One reliable source is a good start. One other comment — images in the infobox cannot point to a www url, but need to be uploaded to Wikipedia or Commons in order to be rendered. — ERcheck (talk) 03:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sandboxes and stuff

Hey Coppercanuck. As far as I'm aware, you can just copy and paste text code from the sandbox into the regular editing window and it will create the article just like normal. One word of warning though (because I've fallen foul of this myself)... don't create bios for players who haven't played pro yet. The reason I'm saying this is because I notice you made a few notes in the talk page for Ottawa Fury about starting bios for their two Kenyan players. Unless they have played at least one game in a professional league (MLS, USL1, USL2, the Canadian championship, or the Kenyan First Division for example), they fail the criteria for soccer player notability, and will be deleted anyway, regardless of the quality of the article. I know this because I created really nice articles for Charles Alamo and Vito Higgins, two goalkeepers who are on the full professional roster of LA Galaxy, but which were deleted anyway, because they haven't "crossed the white line" yet. So just be careful about creating detailed articles, because it's annoying when they get slammed. Keep in touch though - it's nice to talk to other people working on the same articles as I am! --JonBroxton (talk) 18:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Curling

Hey, it's a good idea. Remind me in September, and I'll set it up unless you wish to do so in the mean time. Unfortunately, I do not have internet access right now at my new place, and will not until September. (I now happen to live in the apartments above the Ottawa Curling Club ;-) ...no joke) -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article 2005 CIS Men's Soccer Championship, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Triwbe (talk) 06:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2005 cis soccer logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:2005 cis soccer logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:26, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of St. Lawrence Laurentians

A tag has been placed on St. Lawrence Laurentians requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 15:18, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Curling infobox

Hi, great idea! Not too sure if managers, presidents, ice technicians, etc is all that necessary, same with major championships held. Maybe major championships won? Like, provincials championships. For example, the Ottawa Curling Club has won one women's (Jenn Hanna, 2005) and one men's (Eldon Coombe, 1972) provincial championship. -- Earl Andrew - talk 21:41, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2009 PDL page

Awesome work getting this thing updated fast. --JonBroxton (talk) 23:53, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I just reverted the Wolves change to read "Seattle PDL" because I realized there is no definite confirmation yet, and there is nothing on the Wolves' website. I jumped the gun. I think we should hold off on linking to them and updating their page until PDL HQ formally announce it. --JonBroxton (talk) 23:59, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Victoria Highlanders squad

Dude, don't you think we're a bit early adding that to the page? I mean, it's four months until the PDL season kicks off, and as amateurs none of these guys actually sign a playing contract, so it's more than likely that one or two of them will end up not playing. Shouldn't we wait, and add the squads to the page when the actual games start being played next year (like we did with all of 2008's expansion teams)? --JonBroxton (talk) 04:41, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hope I didn't come across as being rude there, I certainly didn't mean to. The reason I was thinking we should wait is because I remember when my team (San Fernando Valley Quakes) was launched in 2006, we had a big press release, named our initial run of players, presented them to the media... and then precisely two of them ended up actually having any playing time in the first season. Jordan Hughes, the former USL1 player is definitely notable and he should be added to the squad, for sure. The other college players who will play should not (in my opinion) be added until they actually turn out for the team: in the first place, they're not inherently notable in Wikipedia terms until they play a pro game, and only become semi-notable as PDL players once they take to the field, and we start noting them on the team pages as current players. However, in this case, lets leave the Highlanders players on there for now... just take it as a case by case basis :) At least we are two of the few who actually care about PDL articles! --JonBroxton (talk) 17:55, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Curling wikiproject

I don't know the answer to your question really, as I'm not sure exactly what it is, to be honest. But anyways, I put my name on that request. I didn't realize you have to request wikiprojects these days. -- Earl Andrew - talk 06:26, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Danny Kristo

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Danny Kristo, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Article fails WP:N, WP:ATHLETE, and WP:HOCKEY/PPF#NOTE.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Curling

Opinion sought

I have a question for you, and as a regular contributor to PDL pages I thought you might have an opinion. Can you please have a look at the roster of Bakersfield Brigade... you see what I've done there, with adding links to each player's college bio? Do you think this is something we should do for all the players who don't qualify for full Wiki articles? Do you think the links are useful, or is it overkill? Let me know. --JonBroxton (talk) 20:31, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PDL bio links

Be my guest. So long as we keep a consistent format with spacing and everything, the more people help out the easier it will be. Keep an eye out for any corrections to nationalities of players while you're at it - some errors may have crept in here and there. Thanks! --JonBroxton (talk) 03:32, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re the Canadian National Challenge Cup, I'd say that only the teams competing in it are notable, not individual players. If a player who wins it eventually turns pro it's definitely something we can mention in their bio, but if they don't turn pro, then I'd say they don't pass WP:N or WP:ATHLETE anyway. Good job on the Fury bio search, btw. --JonBroxton (talk) 20:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jamaica Premier League

If I get some free time I'll do the 09/10, I had to create the templates to do the league table, so it shouldn't be that much work to do the 09/10, so I'll see what I can do. As for the playoffs you talked about, could you give me some more information if you don't mind. I'm not really familiar with the league, I just saw that the page needed some work. The page says:

"The teams will play each other 3 times each then the final 5 games will be played amongst the top 6 and bottom 6; making it a total of 38 games"

I'm not sure if that is correct or not though. --Footballfollower89 (talk) 17:16, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

update: I've updated the Regular Stage table for 2009/10, I'll do the playoff tables another time and I think I have worked out the playoffs thanks to the 2009/10 entry, so I'll update the 2010/11 also. --Footballfollower89 (talk) 17:47, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of Challenge Trophy 2010 teams‎ has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
