Revision as of 21:57, 27 February 2024

Hello, welcome to my talk page!

If you want to leave a message, please do it at the bottom, as a new section, for better formatting. You can do that by simply pressing the plus sign (+) or "new section" on the top of this page. And don't forget to sign your messages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~

Attention: I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page—my talk page—as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere.

Thank you!

Need help

Hi Iffy,

I found you on the mentors page, and you might be the right person to answer the questions I have. I have two questions, please

  1. How do I archive message sn my talkp age?
  2. How do I access the tool used in Reviewing articles under the New Pages?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Happy Thanksgiving! Prithee P (talk) 10:37, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!
1. To archive messages on your talk page, all you have to do is add {{subst:Setup cluebot archiving|archives=yes}} at the top of the talk page, and a bot will start archiving for you in a few days. More guidance can be found at Help:Archiving a talk page.
2. Reviewing new pages is handled by the Wikipedia:New pages patrol project. The guidelines for who can be granted access to these tools are listed at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Reviewers. IffyChat -- 11:14, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AbhissszZ (08:02, 28 November 2023)

I was writting a biography on myself and it got removed (speedy deletion), I dont know why ?

All facts were correct. --AbhissszZ (talk) 08:02, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Your draft was deleted because it was considered to be advertising or promotional instead of encyclopedic. For further details, read the messages other users have left on your user talk page. Also, writing an autobiography is very strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. IffyChat -- 09:52, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Paul Gurung (10:12, 30 November 2023)

Hello. I just created a sandbox and made my article. How do I move it to the main space? Where to review it? --Paul Gurung (talk) 10:12, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul Gurung: apologies for butting in, but did you read the message I posted on your talk page earlier about creating autobiographies, and more to the point, the many reasons why you shouldn't?
And to answers your question, you should not try to publish this yourself, but should instead put it through an AfC review, on account of your obvious COI. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:33, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to sent to it to the review but i was unable to do it. Paul Gurung (talk) 01:54, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your draft was deleted two days ago, the reasons why were provided to you on your user talk page here. IffyChat -- 09:04, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kawsy (15:11, 30 November 2023)

Hi Dudhhr,

I am on a personal mission to put all my personal knowledge of my life onto wikipedia, from the hospital where I was born to the clothes that I wore since I was a baby to to the ones I wear now. Additionally to the companies Ive worked with and aspire to work if they still dont have Wikipedia pages.

I want to do this so one day, I can open conversations with people based on facts, history and others which I use Wikipedia as a cheat sheet or a trusted reference.

I am currently trying to edit some of my beloved brands and companies from the Philippines (my home country) because not much wikipedia pages are present there and I also want to bolster the industries, brands onto legitimacy to help my countrymen and my country to progress.

Thank you and hoping for your kind help!

Regards,

Hanz --Kawsy (talk) 15:11, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! There is definitely a shortage of information about Philippine organisations, products and brands in Wikipedia, so your assistance is appreciated. New articles on organisations must meet the requirements in WP:NCORP. Sources used to establish the notability of an organisation must be secondary sources that are considered to be reliable, they must also be independent of the subject and they must also provide significant coverage of the organisation. Please also read the guidance you have been provided by reviewers, as they can help you to improve the quality of your drafts. IffyChat -- 15:31, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gameking69 (01:15, 30 December 2023)

Hello Mentor Iffy‬,

I'd like to get your feedback on my draft article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Bazel_F._Lazear --Gameking69 (talk) 01:15, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I am not an expert in this area, but the draft appears to be well written from a quick review. One thing I would note is the number of WP:REDLINKs that appear at to be of non-notable people or organisations, but that is an easy issue to fix. If you want more detailed assistance on this article, I would recommend Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history or specifically, the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/American Civil War task force. Hello! If you are being paid to contribute to Wikipedia, please ensure you comply with the requirements of WP:PAID and also that your Conflict of interest with anyone or anything you plan to write about is disclosed properly. If articles already exist and you are seeking to improve them, use Wikipedia:Edit requests. If articles do not currently exist and you want to create new articles, use the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process. Both of these methods will allow you to have your work reviewed by independent editors. IffyChat -- 00:05, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from YakshPatel1501 (09:53, 20 January 2024)

Hello! I want to write an article on wikipedia but my english is not very good is it okay if I write articles with grammatical mistakes? --YakshPatel1501 (talk) 09:53, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! Many users on Wikipedia like you have English as a second, third, or fourth language and are very much welcome to contribute. While spelling and grammar mistakes are something to be avoided, other editors can fix these later, so don't let an imperfect knowledge of the English language discourage you from improving the encyclopedia. IffyChat -- 11:05, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page 2024 Australian Open, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 19:09, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When viewing the page here on English Wikipedia, On the right "Tools" menu, select "Add interlanguage links". On the popup that appears, type in the language and project code ("trwiki" for Turkish Wikipedia) in the language box, the name of the page on the other wiki in the page box, then press the "Link with page" button. Question from JerseyRingo (12:03, 18 February 2024)

Hello, thanks for being there. I was trying to update details on a page of an author I admire after listening to a recent podcast interview that was released. a lot of details of his writing history were shared and I thought I should update his Wiki page with those added details (the first time that I ever attempted to edit anything on Wiki). I was altered that I should not have done these edits and that I was approaching an editing battle! OH MY! That is not my purpose at all!! So, how should I approach this? I thought you just go in and change (or add) content and link the citation to the edit...no? Is there something more (or a first step I missed) that I should have done as a first step? --JerseyRingo (talk) 12:03, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first step to improving Wikipedia is to be bold, which is exactly what you did. Most of the time, bold edits are accepted by others and that's the end of the matter. Some of the time, as happened here, bold edits are disputed and the edit gets reverted. After your edit was reverted, the next step in the standard dispute resolution process is to discuss the matter on the talk page of the author in question. See Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle for further details. IffyChat -- 12:16, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
