Disambiguation link notification for December 5

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Merab Turkadze, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Georgia (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Image placement issue

Hi Marek,

This is my first time using the talk pages so I hope I'm doing it right... When reading the page on timber framing I noticed the image of Anne Hvides Gaard Svendborg was not placed right. It is an image from Denmark, beside a paragraph about British tradition. What's more, the image seems to disturb the last item of the bullet list above it. When I went to the edit page I noticed that in the source the image is in the right place. I've tried a number of ways to get it in the right place but sofar without success... Basically, I think the image should be placed just like the image of Idstein a little further down the page; a thumbnail on the left, just below a heading, with text flowing on the right. When comparing the two images I noticed one starting with File, the other with Image. Changing this did not change the layout. I noticed that the Danish image is below a heading 2 while the German image is below a heading 3. Changing the heading above the Danish image to heading 3 did not change the layout. Please have a look at this page. I can't figure out why this image is refusing to be positioned where it should. By the way, I'm using Firefox. It looks slightly better in IE but the images are still not placed the same way.

Thanks,

Rvallenduuk (talk) 10:16, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) There's a long stack of right-aligned images, and some of these are pushed downward by those above them. Images are always displayed in the same order that they occur in the source, so when a left-aligned image is in the source after a right-aligned image which has been pushed downward, it will also be displaced downward. In general, the upper edge of a left-aligned image displaced in this manner will be no higher than the upper edge of the immediately-preceding right-aligned image. It's a known problem, for which there are several solutions. For example, some of the images which are currently right-aligned could be moved to the left, which will allow others to move up the page; less-important images can be removed; or (best) more text can be added. More at MOS:IMAGELOCATION. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:35, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick answer. That explains it. I've moved the images around a bit on the page so it display properly now. Rvallenduuk (talk) 18:22, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

GOCE mid-December newsletter

End of Year Events from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in its events:

  • The December 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is currently in the submissions stage. Submit your best December copy edit there before the end of the month. Submissions end, and discussion and voting begin, on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC).
  • Voting is in progress for the November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest. Everyone is welcome to vote, whether they have entered the contest or not.
  • From Sunday 16 December to Saturday 22 December, we are holding a Project Blitz, in which we will copy edit articles tagged with {{copyedit}} from January 2012. The blitz works much like our bimonthly drives, but a bit simpler. Everyone is welcome to take part, and barnstars will be awarded.
  • January 2013 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2012. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

Coodinator election: Nominations are open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January to 30 June 2013. Nominations close on December 15 at 23:59 UTC, after which voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

Translation request

Hi Marek, happy New Year. :-) Could I ask you a favour? I'm nominating Icelandic Phallological Museum for Today's Featured Article but would like to increase its score. It's only 5 languages off being a "widely covered" topic. Would you mind translating the stub article at User:Prioryman/Icelandic Phallological Museum summary for the Polish wiki? Prioryman (talk) 21:37, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Help

I'm losing track. I assume you can view my talk page. If you can't, you'll have to tell me what to do so that you can.

You may see that I asked a question at the Teahouse. That's where the "problem" started. Although I signed my post with 4 tildes, the SineBot kicked in. I don't understand why. Then, I'm not sure what the responses I got mean. Taking it through, I assume that an editor simply decided that the article I was asking about wasn't sufficiently objective and put in the NPOV tag. I would have thought that, if an editor believes an article to be biased, he/she should look into it, identify both the original author and any other contributors, and then look to see the article amended. Not just tag it and leave it.

Then, if I want to have a conversation with the said editor, what is the protocol? Do I continue on the Teahouse page or go to the editor's talk page?

And I don't understand the advice given about my signature on the Special Preferences page. The advice given on the Special Preferences page seems to be at odds with the advice I was given.

And then the SineBot kicked in again! Is there some maximum space that is allowed before the 4 tildes are inserted?

I sort of wish I'd never asked the question now. It seems to have resulted in more problems than I was hoping to get resolved. But I have to get to the bottom of it now. Agent0060 12:51, 29 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agent0060 (talkcontribs)
