Are websites with Google ads NOT valid resources?

(Re [1]) i also visit About.com which I believe has very valuable information (that is MY opinion only) and it is "plastered" with sponsored links. Are "sponcored links" the same as google ads by wikipedia standards? or does wikipedia believe that ANY site with these types of ads, regardless of the information, research or contribution of user desired information is not worthy of being noted?

Ok, maybe I am being ironic, sorry! but I feel that its kina dumb, I mean even wikipedia asks for money, i personally have a blog (with no ads on it) but its for personal expression only, and i don't put links on wikipedia to it.

personally I felt that Wikipedia should be a source of unbiased, uncensored information as long as there is no advertising (spamming) or garbage. but lets face it, the bios of Warren Bennis, Robin Sharma (books wise), and many others is basic PR. yet it seems to be no problem because people (including myself) are interested. and FYI, i never even heard of Warren Bennis (and many others) before going to the leadership gurus site, but i did appreciate the article on wikipedia about him.

the links i was placing was to a "LIST" of people you already have on wikipedia, PR for them or not, they are on wikipedia already (you can always take them off if you want, that is not my place). and whether the site has google ads or not, personally i don't care, i just like to know stuff like this, and thought others might too. also the idea of voting honestly is turn-on. i have heard about 6 of these guys speak (only one do i know personally, and he is not on wikipedia), some are boring some are exciting

so what do i do now, stand by the sidelines and let people tell me what i can and cannot do? what is right and what is wrong? or should i stand my ground and fight for what i believe in - freedom of information and expression, and the desire to give value to others? and keep on trying to give what i feel is valuable, and that would include an article on Arthur Carmazzi who personally think is a great man (but then again, that is my opinion).

can you please give me some real guidance and not just blow me off like some of the others.

got my account

hi Xenocidic

i got my account. i am passionate about Psychology and how to lead people. i have really learned a lot from these gurus, there books, articles, websites... i want to make a difference. i am still young and have a lot to learn and do in my life, knowledge is hobby and i want to share it. so how? honestly i don't do lots of research and dig deep into stuff myself, thats why i come here and other sites where the research has already been done. for example http://leadershipnow.com it is a commercial site, but it has sooo much great information in it. and it was voted #1 leadership blog of the year in 2008, wouldn't that be something others may be interested in?

in this day and age it is very difficult to separate anything valuable from commercialism, simply because much of the reason people come up with the good stuff is to make money. i personally think that John Maxwell's rank on number 1 is spot on, i heard him speak and the guy is truly a master, but the links go to his commercial AND religious websites. Who says he is the number one, don't know but i do believe. commercial status should that have any relevance in my desire to go to his commercial site to get info.

and in about.com, again, sooo much valuable information. do you know how much time it takes to find these things? it would be so nice if wikipedia could acknowledge that its followers, like me, could go to find lots of information. much of the criteria set seems to be related to historical fact. but new gurus like Maxwell still get the PR and commercial benefit without violation??? not that i am against it, i appreciate the links. just don't think there should be double standards.

as for the 1000 people voting on the bad leader on the leadershipgurus site, now you are being ironic, tisk tisk. i am guessing you read the criteria - http://www.leadershipgurus.net/leadership_award.html

also, what about proven methods like Directive Communication psychology, wildly used in asia, but not in ammerica where most of the wiki editors are, so they don't think its valid because they don't read asian newpapers and media. and they don't even want to look at the proof. i had a bad experience with this.

oh, by the way, i am living in asia, where are you?

also, what does Xenocidic mean?

sorry i rambled. what do you think i should do now?

Hi Xeno

submitted to the link you suggested.

beside that, what else can i do. i know a but most of what i know is not my own, it is someone elses ideas like Maxwell or Blanchard...

oh, and you name, not sure if that's good, i mean its strong and all, but what if aliens are not really invading and it just looks like it, then wouldn't it be bad to destroy them? i remember this really old black and white movie, don't remember the name, but it had this giant robot that was like the police for the universe. only remember the earth was saved because the alien got a message to the robot "klitu barata nicto" - do you know that movie? kinda makes you think.

anyway have a chipper day :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hotmarcie (talkcontribs) 12:38, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Rollback

Your bribe

Xenocidic, This may be too early, but if possible, I would love the Rollback feature added to my account. I have been using Twinkle a bit, but I would rather have the feature on my account. You've blocked a few IPs that I have reported (if that goes for anything :P). Anyway, tell me when to reapply if you can't give it to me now, or whatever.

DavidWS (talk) 19:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi David, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but it is definitely too soon to grant rollback; you've only been editing for two days. That being said, your recent reverts using Twinkle have been nearly spot on. (at least the ones I looked at). Keep up the good work and ask again/apply to WP:RFR in a couple weeks. –xenocidic (talk) 19:45, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw your reply---after I request rollback on the RFR page. User:Tivedshambo added rollback to my account. Sorry for requesting it in two different places, I was just thinking I might as well put it on the "official" request page. DavidWS (talk) 17:37, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. heck, if I had some more ground between me and my RFA, I probably would've granted it yesterday. Your twinkle use clearly showed high levels of clue, and I did feel a little silly asking you to wait a couple weeks before giving you a tool that would speed up your vandal-fighting work. happy huggling, –xenocidic (talk) 17:39, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What's the difference here?

The IP I just reported from Best Buy is a display machine. It hasn't been warned often so got off with a 1 day block. 198.22.123.103 is the machine right next to it on the same display table. It's been blocked for 6 months. What's the difference here? DarkAudit (talk) 18:40, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's already been blocked by another admin, I was just commenting on the edits. Sorry, just re-read your comment. I guess this one hasn't had as much vandalism activity, so the admin erred on the side of conservatism. the other one was blocked by Jack Bauer, and that guy doesn't fuck around. cheers, –xenocidic (talk) 18:42, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unblock-un requests

Just a note -- I saw your response at User talk:Dynotech, and in general requests to change username when the username was the issue don't need to be discussed with the blocking admin. Username blocks are normally intended to be non-judgemental of the user, only the name, so if they agree to change name they should be allowed to. (It is worth checking that there wasn't another reason for the block, such as vandalism or spamming. Sometimes people get blocked with the username block template when they really should be blocked for other reasons like {{test7}} or {{spamusername}}.) Anyway, just a friendly note, hope it helps. Mangojuicetalk 13:59, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that helps. I'll keep that in mind for the future and check for aggravating circumstances. –xenocidic (talk) 14:02, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Xeno, just wondering what your opinion is for a length of time to attempt discussion with a user about a (possibly) inappropriate username? Haven't really done this before, and I would guess that whoever does eventually block would use their judgement, but would like a bit of a ball-park figure for time before I recommend RFCN. Cheers — Relyimah (t-c-e) 23:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm I'll admit usernames for attention isn't really my area of expertise, but from what I understand if a user isn't actively editing than there's no real cause for concern. If the user doesn't get back to you, and doesn't start editing, I'm not sure that any actions needs to be taken. Though, feel free to seek a second opinion from an admin more active at UAA. –xenocidic (talk) 01:57, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Radio Wikipedia Re-Design

Hello Xeno, I, StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen, have redesigned the Radio Wikipedia main page. You may be interested in Wikipedia:Radio_Wikipedia#Staff, as it details Who Reports When? and the current staff. I am sure you already know our uploading instructions, but that is there too. Just so you know:

  • Saturday 28 June 2008: Xenocidic
  • Sunday 29 June 2008: Red Thunder
  • Monday 30 June 2008: StewieGriffin!

And before you reserve Tuesday, we have a new instruction. Anyway, Thanks and I look forward to your episode. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 21:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC) PS: I understand you know this, but remember a 3 Minute Show is the max. PPS: I would also like to say, we won't use a system like X, RT, SG, X,... instead users will just reserve episodes the previous day.[reply]

User page protection

Sorry to trouble you again, but another question (not article related): is there anything to prevent me from getting most of my user pages semi-protected at WP:RFP? I haven't really had anyone vandalize my pages except once or twice a while back, but I don't want my watchlist cluttered by my own user pages and I prefer excess caution over unpreparedness. In other words, is it possible to ask for semi-protection for some of my user pages when there isn't really a serious reason to? -- Comandante {Talk} 21:28, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fairly sure there is no problem semi'ing your pages on request, just provide a list of the one's you want protected and I'll do it for you. You can also think about making a subpage-only changelist as I've done at User:Xenocidic/misc. –xenocidic (talk) 21:47, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Much obliged. Here's the list of all my user pages: [6]. Just protect everything except the sandbox and the two monobook pages. I'll consider the subpage changelist, but I don't think I have enough pages to seriously need it yet. -- Comandante {Talk} 22:37, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

StatusBot

Hi Xeno, saw this edit. Is there anything I *need* to do? The only reason I'd added Statusbot was because I joined the highly active users project but I've never actually been contacted through that. Is there any other benefit to having on/off line status that I'm missing? It wasn't anything I thought of before the project. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 02:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm, nope, nothing really that you *need* to do at this time. HAU hasn't set in stone an alternate status display method. The edit summary was just a suggestion on an alternate status method for those that want one. –xenocidic (talk) 02:56, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rpotd nomination

Greetings. On the template issue, perhaps you can help with my nomination of Template:Rpotd. I am somewhat at a loss with what to do with that mess, so the TfD nom was sortof a default action. Any advice would be great. Or you can go ahead and speedy the mess with a bulk tool. =) Thanks. --Thetrick (talk) 15:25, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yikes - the RPOTD "father" template is linked on a great number of pages. On this one, I'd probably suggest "back away slowly" or "run in the other direction" (read: it can probably be safely ignored; perhaps withdraw the nom?). –xenocidic (talk) 15:32, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True, it is all over the place (though less than 100 links/transclusions). But the effort seems dead and was non-encyclopedic to begin with. And nobody has complained yet despite the visible nomination warning. Is there a tool that can do bulk moves? If all those RPOTD/xxx templates were in GeorgeMoney's namespace I probably wouldn't have made the nom. --Thetrick (talk) 16:01, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that admins can move all subpages recursively. Let the TFD run I suppose and see what the outcome is. The only problem would be update all the usages, which would be a PITA. It is borderline encyclopedic IMO. –xenocidic (talk) 18:09, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redlinked cat

hmmm... Enigma message 18:06, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't seem particularly useful to me. –xenocidic (talk) 18:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just not sure what to do with it. Three pages are somehow in a redlinked category. They got automatically put there. Enigma message 21:44, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Probably some bit of code in the Wikiproject Brigham University tag. (Which seems like a rather narrow-scoped WikiProject to me) –xenocidic (talk) 21:46, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So what can we do about it? Enigma message 16:41, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amazing!

(Re [8]/[9]) Thanks very much, I think it's working now!! ——RyanLupin(talk) 23:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem - enjoy. –xenocidic (talk) 23:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semiprotection

Hey. Can you semi-protect my userpage? it gets heavy IP vandalism. Acalamari did it before, but it seems to have worn off. Shapiros10 contact meMy work 14:00, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, it looks like some tweaks were done to your userpage for privacy concerns, and that's why the protection was no longer active. Keep in mind it's best not to disclose too much information about yourself. –xenocidic (talk) 14:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't take orders very easily, but I agreed. I don't like getting on the bad sides of admins. Thank you once again! Shapiros10 contact meMy work 14:07, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just keep in mind that it was done for your protection; heck, even as an adult, I would never reveal my date of birth or exact location details on the Internet. –xenocidic (talk) 14:36, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's nice to see that all kinds of people care about be :) Shapiros10 contact meMy work 14:38, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I just tagged this article with a speedy as the author requested it be deleted. Please see the talk page. If you did and still decline it then that's cool, i just wanted to check that you see the deletion request. Ged UK (talk) 15:10, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I declined it as WP:CSD#G7 only applies when the only editor requests deletion; there's been some other substantive contributions by other editors. I did initially delete per G7, but then realized my mistake. –xenocidic (talk) 15:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, no probs. Ged UK (talk) 15:13, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, feel free to prod or AFD. –xenocidic (talk) 15:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

G7

I swear when I looked at the article history none of that stuff was there, especially not the previous G7 noms... that's the only reason I put the CSD tag on it. Is there anything that can cause the history to be "hidden"? I have no idea what happened... Livitup (talk) 16:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know what, never mind... I think I was looking at the article talk page history. :) Livitup (talk) 16:44, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

*chuckle* no problem. –xenocidic (talk) 16:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback template

(Re [10]) Great, thanks! I was using {{rollbackgiven}} which was okay, but generally better for people who didn't know when they were getting it. :) Thanks again, PeterSymonds (talk) 15:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:Jon janes doesn't understand why it's harder to set up a fan page here than it is on MySpace

Notice the account holder now says he's J.J.'s webmaster, not J.J. himself; but wants to be unblocked so he can set up his client's profile here just like he has for Facebook and MySpace. You want to do the declination honors this time, so he can see that we're all working from the same manual? --Orange Mike | Talk 16:59, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template

Hey, you created this template using bascially the exact same code as my template here. Next time, please ask or tell the person whose code you are copying. I don't mind that you use it, but it is always best to ask first! :) Malinaccier (talk) 19:13, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I robbed it from Keeper with permission, who robbed it from you (I believe with permission) =) I added attribution in a dummy edit. –xenocidic (talk) 19:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha! Thanks. Malinaccier (talk) 19:17, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
cheers! great template, btw. –xenocidic (talk) 19:18, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: StewieGriffin! Talk

(Re [11]) Well only semi-retirement. When did I say my famous words? I'll be back in a few months. Did you see I thanked you. I've decided:

The Barnstar of Barnstars
For your constant niceness, userbox idea, catchprase idea, and help. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 20:27, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added that catchprase to my userpage. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 20:16, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That will be my catchprase. For you, one last time: . StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 20:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Funny. The vacuums will attack. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 20:27, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to say. Thanks for the barnstar. Did you see I merged the barnstars above into a single template. Obviously each barnstar is individual and you can always get the messages in the history.
Yea, that's pretty neat. I put it on my awards page =) cheers, –xenocidic (talk) 20:50, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Per my award, I can't believe I created it. I thought someone else would have (the name at least). I'm thinking of extending it (would you be interested). Not on Wikipedia, possibly Meta... Radio Wikimedia. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 20:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tell me what you think of meta:Radio Wikimedia, please. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 21:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is a shocker. I'm guessing it's just us running the show now? RedThunder 21:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UBX migration

Good point, and thanks for the template. Quite a few of the users seemed either inactive completely, or not active enough to warrant contacting, but I suppose it's only polite. However, if they were created back in 2005/6 it can probably be assumed that they've been forgotten about. I suppose I'm just impatient and past experience tells me that I'm unlikely to get a response :P. Thanks anyway and I'll try contacting people and see what kind of response I get. RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 21:52, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I could well see that happening, although the edit histories are preserved. I hope you don't mind if I nick your system (60 days/48h seems sensible, I'll need to log the UBXn somewhere...), it may cut down on my workload too, if people move them themselves (although transclusions will still need updating). Thanks again. RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 21:57, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Qui and HAU

Yeah, I'm going to try out Qui as soon as I get off work. Assuming it works as well as advertised (and isn't too complex), I'll put two and two together and HAU should have real-time status again. Useight (talk) 23:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for !voting on my RfA. If you supported, I'll make sure your confidence is not misplaced; if you opposed, I'll take your criticism into account and try to adjust my behavior accordingly.

See you around the wiki!--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 00:39, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks to the miracle of time travel, I replied in the past, here.
    • Yup, saw that. I found the dashboard in the New Admin School, and plan to use it well. :-) Thanks for the sig recommendation: I didn't realize that I wasn't including it properly.--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 00:48, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Happy admininiming. –xenocidic (talk) 00:54, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you liked my idea. Wow, you support a lot. You must not jump in on many of the snowed RFAs. Useight (talk) 05:12, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
