These rankings sort by the number of gold medals earned by a country. The number of silver medals is taken into consideration next and then the number of bronze medals. The 2008 Summer Olympics medal count is a list of National Olympic Committees ranked by the number of medals won during the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, People's Republic of China, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. Approximately 11,028 athletes are expected to participate in 302 events in 28 sports.[1]
