- 3 January – The Singaporean car carrier Hoegh Osaka runs aground on Bramble Bank of the Isle of Wight, in the entrance to Southampton Water.[1]
- 14 January – First SMRT train service disruption east-bound train travelling from Joo Koon to Dover.
March
- 23 March – Former Singapore first Prime Minister and also "Architect of Modern Singapore" Lee Kuan Yew, died at the age of 91 in Singapore General Hospital.
- Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has declared a seven-day period of national mourning and the funeral will be held on March 29.
- The state flags on all government buildings would be flown at half-mast for the mourning period, which starts on March 23, and ends on March 29.
- 25 March – Lee Kuan Yew's funeral
- The funeral procession of Lee Kuan Yew from the Istana to Parliament House.
- Thousands of Singaporeans queued to pay their last respects to former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who lay in state at Parliament House.
