Dominic Thiem was the defending champion but withdrew from the tournament due to an ongoing wrist injury.[1]

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic is seeking to become just the second man in the Open Era, after Rod Laver in 1969, to complete the Calendar Year Grand Slam, if he wins the title.[2]

Djokovic is also attempting to win a 21st major singles title and break a tie he holds with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, to become the sole holder of the all-time record total of men's singles major titles.[2]

‡ The player did not qualify for the tournament in 2019 or 2020 and is defending points from a 2020 ATP Challenger Tour tournament (Ostrava) instead.
