The 2022 WTA Tour is the elite professional tennis circuit organised by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the 2022 tennis season. The 2022 WTA Tour calendar comprises the Grand Slam tournaments (supervised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF)), the WTA 1000 tournaments, the WTA 500 tournaments, the WTA 250 tournaments, the Billie Jean King Cup (organized by the ITF), and the year-end championships (the WTA Finals and the WTA Elite Trophy).[1][2]

On December 2, 2021, WTA chairman Steve Simon announced that all tournaments scheduled to be held in both China and Hong Kong are suspended beginning in 2022, due to concerns regarding the security and well-being of tennis player Peng Shuai after her allegations of sexual assault against Zhang Gaoli, a high-ranking member of the Chinese Communist Party.[3][4]

Comebacks

  • Poland Marta Domachowska (born 16 January 1986): Domachowska said during an interview for Polish media that she plans to play several pro tournaments. The only problem is that she has to notify the WTA and ITF of this decision 6 months before returning. In that case we can expect Marta Domachowska return to the tour around March. She said that she treats this return as fun and a desire to feel adrenaline.[8]

Retirements

  • Australia Samantha Stosur (born in 30 March 1984): Stosur announced on 29 December 2021 that the 2022 Australian Open will be her last singles event, and that 2022 will be her final year on the doubles circuit.[9]
