It is called Halfway because it is situated half-way between Newbury and Hungerford on the A4 road. It also so called as it is half-way between London and Bristol.

Notable buildings

It used to be the site of a folly-type building in the shape of a mock castle which was demolished in the 1960s. It was also the site of 'The Old Green Man' public house, sometimes known as 'The Halfway'. The Halfway Inn is now a Gastropub.[1]
