Debut

Between 2015 and the launch of the Arona, sales of high built cars like crossovers and SUVs increased four times. The Arona was the third novelty of the marque after the upgraded León, and the new generation of the Ibiza.

SEAT launched three new utility vehicles between 2016 and 2019, due to the growing popularity of them.[1] First was the middle one in size, the Ateca in 2016, next is the Arona, and the mid size SUV is the Tarraco in 2018.

Before its reveal, SEAT's deputy chairman Ramón Paredes met with mayor of Arona, Tenerife, Spain. The Ibiza-based crossover was first presented in Barcelona on 26 June 2017.[2] 250 journalists attended the show from various countries. The public audience could see it in the Frankfurt Motor Show for the first time in September 2017.[3]

Engines

The Arona is only available with three engines: the petrol’s are a 1.0 3 cylinder with 95 or 115 horsepower turbocharged engine or a 1.5 Tsi EVO 4 cylinder with 150 horsepower and cylinder deactivation. The diesel is a 1.6 with 95bhp.[4][5]

Sales and production figures

The total production per year of SEAT Arona cars is shown in the following table:

Total annual production 17,527 110,926 134,611

Environmental performance

In October 2019 Green NCAP assessed Arona with the 1.5l TSI engine, noting its strong performance, in particular low emission levels, but saying that the energy efficiency was just about adequate.
