Abhimanyu Dassani (born 21 February 1990) is an Indian actor who predominantly works in Hindi films.[1] In 2018, he debuted with the film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota.
He is the son of notable Indian actress Bhagyashree.
Career
Hailing from Mumbai, Dassani started his career by assisting director Rohan Sippy on Dum Maaro Dum and Nautanki Saala .[2] He studied at the New York Film Academy and Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute .[3]
Dassani made his feature film debut Vasan Bala's action comedy Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. It premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the People's Choice Award: Midnight Madness.[4][5] The film was also screened at the 2018 MAMI Film Festival.[6] He performed all the stunts himself and watched several classic action films for days to famliarise himself with the genre. He broke a finger and dislocated his shoulder while filming.[7] Pradeep Menon of Firstpost said "he occupies the screen well" and noted that "his look suits the character of a guy who has not had enough meaningful interactions with the real world."[8]
In 2020, Dassani signed to play the lead in comedy-drama Aankh Micholi [9] alongside Mrunal Thakur. He has finished filming Meenakshi Sundareshwar[10] with Sanya Malhotra for Netflix, and he has also wrapped up Nikamma with Shilpa Shetty and Shirley Setia which are supposed to release by the end of 2021.[11]
