Baota District (simplified Chinese: 宝塔区; traditional Chinese: 寶塔區; pinyin: Bǎotǎ Qū), is a district in Yan'an Municipality, Shaanxi Province, China, and contains the municipality's headquarters. The district is named for the Baota Pagoda, which is contained in its borders.

Baota District

The district contains three residential areas: Baota-shan, Nanshi, and Fenghuang-shan; eleven townships: Liulin, Hezhuangping, Ceyuan, Qiaogou, Liqu, Yaodian, Ganguyi, Qinghuabian, Panlong, South Niwan, and Linzhen; nine villages: Chuankou, Wanhua, Fengzhuang, Yuanlong Temple, Qucun, Guantun, Madongchuan, Songshu-lin, and Guanzhuang. It has a total of 611 administrative hamlets and 37 community residential committees.

History

In Qin times the area was organized as Gaonu County within the Shang Commandery. In 1937 the Communist Party Central Committee made Yan'an the administrative seat of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border District. In 1949, the area's name was changed to Yan'an County. In 1972, it was reorganized to form the Yan'an Zone's County-Level Yan'an municipality. After the Yan'an Zone became the Yan'an Municipality, the county-level municipality became the Baota District.

Economy

Baota is a largely agricultural region, with petroleum as the only main industry. The hamlets have telephone access, and the district has access to the Xi'an-Huangling highway, the Xi'an-Yan'an Railway, the Shenmu-Yan'an Railway, and the National Road 210.
