Brandon Lehti (born January 16, 1990)[1] is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician and producer. He is best known as the former vocalist and rhythm guitarist of The Latency. The band broke up in 2011, and he started releasing solo music in 2012.

Early life[edit]

Lehti was born in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada on January 16, 1990. He grew up from a broken home which influenced him to write music.[2] He started playing music at the age of nine, playing drums.[3] He attended Garibaldi Secondary School, where he met and befriended Ryan Stead and Mathew Gendron.[4] The trio decided to form a band after their separate groups broke up.[2]

Career[edit]

2006–2011: The Latency[edit]

Formed in 2006,[2] the band was discovered by bassist Tommy Mac of Hedley, who became the group's manager after meeting them at their high school as a guest speaker.[5] In 2008, the group released their debut single, "Tonight, I Love You" without any label support.[4] The song peaked at number 93 on the Canadian Hot 100.[6] The success of the song led to the band attracting the interest of several record labels, in which they were soon signed to MapleMusic Recordings.[4] In September 2009, they released their debut self-titled studio album.[7] In December 2011, the group parted ways.[8]

2010–2017: Solo career[edit]

In 2010, Lehti took part in Young Artists for Haiti, a movement rallying Canada's young musicians to support ongoing charity efforts aiding Haiti's recovery from the 2010 earthquake. Over 50 Canadian artists, including Lehti, convened at The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver to record K'naan's "Wavin' Flag".[9] That same year, Lehti signed with Hipjoint Music Group and worked with Vancouver songwriters Mike James and Troy Samson.[10] While on tour with Faber Drive, Lehti began writing songs with the band after he was asked by Dave Faber.[11] In December 2012, Lehti released his debut EP, Heartbreak Getaway on Bandcamp. The following the year in April, he released his second EP, Bridges.[12] He worked with indie pop artist, Alexander France, helping out with songwriting, piano, guitars, backing vocals and programming on his debut EP, Dance Parlour.[13] He also co-produced the EP with France.[14] In May 2016, Lehti was featured on the single, "I Got You", by KYFRA and Eche Palante.[15] Later that month, he was featured on the single, "Long Way Home", with Joey Dale by Paris & Simo.[16] Lehti performed at the Harbour Event Center on June 9, 2016, in Vancouver.[17]

Personal life[edit]

Lehti attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2016. He currently works for the Current Scientific Corporation as an engineering project manager, according to his LinkedIn profile page.[18]
