The 2025 Miss America Pageant will be the 97th annual Miss America event. Madison Marsh of Colorado will crown her successor at the end of the event.

The Miss America contest background[edit]

New Miss America 2025 Pageant rules forbid when transgender people who have not completed surgery changes to their own gender are contestants.[1] That would mean surgery needs to be complete before one can participate in these Pageants beginning with the 2025 Miss America year.[2] Also, to actually participate in the 2025 Miss America Pageant you would have to be born between 1996 and 2006.[3][4][5] In other words while 2024 is in progress contestants cannot turn age 29 before 2024 ends.[6]

The usual rules apply to the 2025 part of the Miss America Pageants:

  • All contestants or anybody who wants to participate need to be female.[7]
  • A contestant cannot marry while she is Miss America.[8]
  • Contestants can run only once even if they do not win any Miss America titles.
  • Whosoever wants to run as a contestant has to be between age 18–28 years old.
  • Whosoever are Miss America contestants cannot have any criminal offense (even a misdemeanor or petty crime).[9]
  • Residency rules require the contestants to live in the State and work in the same where they represent.[10]
  • Under no circumstances can a female wanting to compete be married, have been previously married, have gotten pregnant, be raising or have adopted children. Furthermore the female cannot get engaged without having proper permission of the Miss America Organization before or during their service year.[12]

The controversy of the Miss America Pageants[edit]

The Miss America Pageants have a history of strong argument about whether they might have objectified and degraded females and promoted narrow and unrealistic beauty standards which date to the late 1960s.[13]
