Pandit Shekhar Ganesh Kumbhojkar is an Indian vocalist and music teacher of Hindustani classical music, best known for his live performances of Hindu devotional music, and provides vocal accompaniment for Kathak dancers.[1][2][3] In 1996, he was the recipient of the second Ramkrishnabuva Vaze Yuva Gayak Puraskar awarded the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal.[4] He appeared on the soundtrack for the film Tarunyachya Latevar (2003).[5]
In 2015, he was the recipient of the Pandita Rohini Bhate Award from the Pune Municipal Corporation. In 2021, he authored an essay in Hindi for Nandkishore Kapote's festschrift about Birju Maharaj,[6] and provided the vocal accompaniment for a Kathak performance at the Kennedy Centre in September of that same year.[7] Educated at the Deccan Education Society's Navin Marathi School in Pune, Maharashtra.[8][9][10] He was a student of Jitendra Abhisheki,[11][12] further going on to train Hrishikesh Ranade.[13]
