Excavator is a microarchitecture under development by AMD to succeed Steamroller. On October 12, 2011, AMD revealed Excavator to be the code name for the fourth-generation Bulldozer-based core. The Excavator based APU will be codenamed Carrizo, scheduled for a 2015 release.[1][2] Excavator is expected to support new instructions such as SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES, PCLMUL, AVX, BMI1, F16C, MOVBE, AVX2, BMI2 and RDRAND.[3] Excavator is also expected to come with DDR3 and DDR4 memory controllers, currently not known if on the same die or mutually exclusive.
