Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya (born January 31, 1981) is a Turkish politician who serves as the Minister of Family and Social Policies and Deputy Prime Minister since 24 May 2016. She is the only woman in the 65th Cabinet and the third minister with headscarf in Turkish political history.[1] She has an computer engineering degree as well as a Doctor of Medicine degree.
She is a Member of Parliament for Istanbul second electoral district from Justice and Development Party (AKP). She was first an AKP candidate in the June 2015 general election but was not successful. She was elected in November 2015.
Fatma Betül Sayan graduated from Bilkent University department of computer engineering with high distinction.[2] She worked as a project engineer in İstanbul. Later she went to United States and studied at New York University for a while.[failed verification] After returning to Turkey, she attended Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine. Between 2009 and 2012, she served as an advisor to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.[3]
Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya is married and has two children. She is sister of Ömer Fatih Sayan who is the head of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority.[4][5]
