Gérard Xavier Marcel Depardieu, CQ (born 27 December 1948, ) is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning French actor. One of France's most prominent actors, his most significant English-language productions include Green Card with Andie MacDowell and 1492: Conquest of Paradise.
Biography
Depardieu was born in Châteauroux, Indre, the son of Anne Jeanne Josèphe "Éliette" (née Marillier) and René Maxime Lionel Depardieu, who was a metal worker.[1][2] He first married Élisabeth (née Guignot), with whom he had two children. Guillaume and Julie. He also has a younger daughter, Roxane, with Karine Silla. He later had an affair with actress Carole Bouquet from 1997 to 2005[3]. Depardieu is the favourite actor and a personal friend of former Cuban president Fidel Castro.[4]
Among Depardieu's notable works is a series of comedy films in which he starred opposite comic actor Pierre Richard - La Chèvre (1981), Les Compères (1983), Les Fugitifs (1986).
Depardieu contributed spoken word vocals on the song "I'll Strangle You" for French producer Hector Zazou's 1992 album Sahara Blue. The album featured lyrics based on the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud.
Awards
Depardieu has been nominationed for the Best Actor in a Leading Role César during his career and won it two times in 1981 and 1991. He was also nominated for an Oscar in 1990 for his role in Cyrano de Bergerac.
