It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. Biggest lakes are Kivijärvi, Vuosjärvi and Kannonselkä.[3]The population density is [convert: invalid number].

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

February 22, 1971: a school bus and a rail car collided at a level crossing 2.5 miles north of Kannonkoski station; six children were killed and some passengers were slightly injured.
