The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO; Template:Lang-ko) is the governing body for the professional leagues of baseball in South Korea. KBO should not be confused with the Korea Baseball Organization League. KBO was founded in 1981 and has been governing two leagues: Korea Baseball Championship (Template:Lang-ko) and Futures League (Korean: 퓨처스 리그; farm league) since 1982.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] It is one of two major baseball governing bodies; the other is the Korea Baseball Association (Template:Lang-ko), which is the governing body for the amateur baseball competitions.[10][11][12][13][14] Now chairman of organization is Goo Bon-Neung, a candidate for the Korean Baseball Hall of Fame. [15]
KBO is a member of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF), and is responsible for the national baseball team for the Olympics, World Baseball Classic, Asian Games, and Asia Series.[16][17] The Korea Baseball Association, however, is in charge of the other international competitions, such as the World Youth Baseball Championship, World Junior Baseball Championship, World University Baseball Championship, World Cup, and Intercontinental Cup.[18]
