As a result, he became the first rider to win both titles in the same year at an elite level,[5] Jonathan Hall had previously won both in 1997 but not at an elite level.[6]
Early career
Durbridge was born in Greenmount, Western Australia, and started cycling at 14 years of age, competing in triathlons. In 2009 he became the World Junior Individual Time Trial Champion at the UCI U19 Road World Championships in Moscow, Russia, also winning gold in the World Junior Madison Championship at the UCI U19 Track World Championships that same year. In 2010 he became the youngest ever medal winner in the U23 Individual time trial event of the UCI Road World Championships.

They are used by a number of templates and pages on Wikipedia. team ahead of the 2012 season, which coincided with him being dropped from the Australian track team.[7][8] After winning the under-23 national time trial title in 2011, Durbridge became the elite national champion in January 2012,[9] beating team-mate and two-time defending champion Cameron Meyer by almost seven seconds. His first professional win came in April 2012, taking the overall title at the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe despite being left with only two team-mates for the final stage.[10] In June he unexpectedly won the prologue of the Critérium du Dauphiné, beating Bradley Wiggins and world time trial champion Tony Martin.[11] He subsequently finished fifth in the Eneco Tour before taking his second general classification win of the year at the 2.1-category Tour du Poitou-Charentes.[12]
