What a joke - obviously Wikipedia has lost it's credibility, Mausam staff is busy writing to project great things about this disaster. Yesterday box office claims were around 41 crores and today it's 31. Wikipedia must check what's going on, plus negative postings about Mausam are being deleted.

Mausam (Hindi: मौसम; English: Season) is a Indian film directed and written by Pankaj Kapoor under the Vistaar Religare Film Fund banner.[2] The film stars Shahid Kapoor opposite Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles. Produced by Sheetal Vinod Talwar and Sunil Lulla, it is Pankaj Kapoor's directorial debut.

The film was originally scheduled to release on September 16, 2011, but due to the delay in obtaining the NOC from the IAF, it was pushed back further by a week. The film finally released on September 23, 2011.

Plot

Mtion. Her aunt tells her that she should get married to Akram as Mariam (Akrams dead wife), would have wished so too. It would also help his son. Aayat thinks of Harry, then thinks that he never came back and so she goes to burn a picture of both of them. Riots start spreading and all of Ahmedbad is lit on fire. Aayat is caught between the fire when Harry saves her. They share a loving moment when they spot a little girl stuck in the blaze. Harry helps save the girl and his paralysis is also cured. He suggests that the 3 of them make a fresh start as they don't have anyone. A few years later Harry, Aayat and the little girl are living happily together and Aayat is expecting a child. The world may have torn them apart, but their love kept them together.

Reception

[3]

Mausam's cinematography and performance from lead actor Shahid Kapoor has been universally praised [4] , but the film received mixed to positive reviews. Zee News bureau gave it 4 stars saying "‘Mausam’ can be best described as a wonderful blend of offbeat and mainstream cinema which is full of charm, elegance and vivacity."[5] Bollycurry gave the film 4 stars out of 5 praising Pankaj Kapur's direction and saying "In his directorial debut, he tells an old-fashioned story of love, separation and reunion with flourishes and flashes of great cinema igniting what would in lesser hands, appear to be a trite tale of love gone frightfully cliched."[6] Nikhat Kazmi of Times Of India rated it 3 out of 5 saying "The film tries to strike a balance between art and mainstream cinema and succeeds partially." [7] Bollyspice gave it 3 stars out of 5 saying "If, like most Bollywood fans, you love a good love story then Mausam (minus the seasons) will make you want to fall in love again."[8] Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV.com gave it it 3 stars out of 5. [9][10] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film 2 stars out of 5, saying that,"On the whole, MAUSAM is a colossal disappointment!" but praises Shahid Kapoor saying "Shahid gives his all to this role, submitting himself to his director-father to mould him the way he chooses to. It won't be erroneous to state that Shahid surpasses all his previous performances, including the one in KAMINEY, with this film. The film also marks the coming of age of this actor."[11] Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN, was also not kind to Mausam. He rated it 2 out of 5, saying, "Director Pankaj Kapur infuses his story and his characters with a delicate, old-fashioned charm that is pleasing and quaint at first, but gets progressively exhausting when logic goes out of the window" [12] Ditto with Raja Sen of rediff.com, who rated it 2 out of 5 and said that the movie occasionally looks striking but disappoints overall. [13]

Box Office

Since it's release, the film has grossed Rs. 31.5 crore in India (Net collection: Rs. 21.5 crore)and Rs. 7.5 crore overseas in it's opening weekend.[14].

What a joke - obviously Wikipedia has lost it's credibility, Mausam staff is busy writing to project great things about this disaster. Yesterday box office claims were around 41 crores and today it's 31. Wikipedia must check what's going on, plus negative postings about Mausam are being deleted.

Production

The film was shot in Punjab, Nepal, Edinburgh, Switzerland, Gwalior and Agra . Some of the night scenes were shot at ND Studios, where the streets of Scotland were re-created, after which they shot for a day at Film City. During shooting, Shahid Kapoor fell from a giant wheel, though not from a great height. He was taken to the doctor immediately and was advised two days of rest.[15] Shooting resumed on May 20, 2010 and went on until May 25, 2010. The cast and crew left for Switzerland around 24 April 2010 for their last schedule. The film features Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in four different looks representing each of the four seasons.[16] The trailer was launched on July 11, 2011.

Reception

The album received all over postive reviews from critics. Joginder Tuteja from Bollywood Hungama gave it 4 out of 5 stars and said: "Mausam is a fantastic album and has all the ingredients that make for a popular soundtrack. While 'Sajh Dhaj Ke' and 'Mallo Malli' are the pick of the lot when it comes to instant chartbusters in the making, 'Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye' and 'Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi' are good enough to enjoy a rather extended shelf life. Just pick this one up!"[17] Planet Bollywood stated: "The soundtrack of Mausam came with humungous expectations and ends up fulfilling the expectations of not just music connoisseurs, but also the lovers of pumped up and universally appealing music. (...) Overall the album is strongly recommended for adding to your music collection as soon as possible!"[18] Rumnique Nannar of Bollyspice gave it 4 out of 5 stars, stating: The soundtrack to Mausam is one of the best Pritam soundtracks in a long while and hits back at all his detractors by showing what he is capable of. The soundtrack mixes both music the masses will love and music connoisseurs too; in short, it is a glorious return for Pritam! There is no real sore track in this album as the situational tracks are equally created with care, there is something for everyone to love on this album. An absolute must listen."[19]

Controversy

The film was in legal trouble in early August 2010, when Pankaj's old friend and former colleague Nawman Malik claimed that the title Mausam is registered under his name and filed a complaint with the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers. He was also claiming that the story of Mausam is his. Now, Mallik has moved the Mumbai High Court asking for an injunction against producer Sheetal Talwar and director Pankaj Kapur for using the title. He has demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the title and has even submitted a digital film called Mausam, which he claims he made.[20]

In September, the film was also denied submission for censorship because the Air Force has objected to a 30 second long aerial action sequence with Shahid Kapoor who plays an Air Force pilot in Mausam. Special permission had been sought and granted to shoot in a real airbase. The Air Force were objecting to a dramatic action fight sequence with Shahid on board a Mirage fighter plane. Mausam producer Sheetal Talwar announced: "We had the script cleared by the Air Force on August 23, 2010. Now suddenly they're objecting to a sequence after it's been shot, edited and the film was ready for censoring?"[21]

Taran Adarsh voiced his objections on claims of production staff of Mausam at it's critical and box office success, to which Shahid began an abusive twitter war. (reported in times of india - sept 27, 2011)

Release

Mausam released across 2,000 plus screens worldwide with a combination of prints and digital screens.[22]
