MediaWiki talk:Wrongpassword
MediaWiki:Wrongpassword is shown to users attempting to log in, if they get the password or CAPTCHA code wrong. (Unless no password was entered, in which case MediaWiki:Wrongpasswordempty is shown.) Since this message appears when either the password or the confirmation code is entered incorrectly, please could it be changed to Incorrect password or confirmation code entered. Please try again.
This should reduce confusion if people don't notice the captcha and are unsure what they got wrong when they try to log in. Tra (Talk) 23:02, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Change back to default

Times have changed and a CAPTCHA is no longer triggered after a single unsuccessful login attempt (I think it now requires two or three login attempts to trigger the CAPTCHA). The current wording ("Incorrect password or confirmation code entered. Please try again.") is needlessly confusing, in my opinion. Can it be changed back to the default ("Incorrect password entered. Please try again.")? --MZMcBride (talk) 20:57, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Agree, the prior wording is too wordy & confusing. Skier Dude (talk) 02:33, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- So what is the message if you DO type it incorrectly 3 times ? The same or is there an additional message ? —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 13:30, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've marked the edit request as answered, as it seems this could do with a bit more discussion. Please see the new thread I've opened up about this at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#MediaWiki:Wrongpassword. Thanks — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 05:11, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Re-activating this request. Can this please be done now? --MZMcBride (talk) 17:12, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thread was archived to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 102#MediaWiki:Wrongpassword with no comment other than the OP. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:51, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Right... so given that the message is unambiguously ambiguous, is there any reason not to restore it to its default? I'm not sure why discussion is needed here; the community seems to agree that discussion is needed. Just make the change already.... --MZMcBride (talk) 18:44, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
