Als o does not explain why constructive or destructive interference would occur at those particular values of the path difference. undo

I have copied the source to the lead, saying: "As a result, contrary to its initial intent, the Michelson-Morsly experiment provided the first evidence against the existence of the ether, and in that respect became the most famous failed experiment in history." undo Tag: Reverted
  • curprev 13:0213:02, 17 March 2023Sophile249 talk contribs 91,079 bytes +14 Michelson morley experiment was actually done to measure the velocity of earth through aether. The failure to do so lead to special relativity. At that time, they were sure that aether existed and even after the failure of experiment, did they didn't conclude that aether don't exist. Although, looking back, this experiment proved the absence of aether, it wasn't done for that purpose. As such is a misconception and repeating it here in Wikipedia will only amplify the effects. undo Tag: Visual edit
