Ministry of Public Security (Bộ Công an) was the ministry of the interior of Vietnam (Bộ Nội vụ). It was established with the help of the Soviet Union, and in addition to the regular police officer corps, it also administers the Public Security forces, which is the paramilitary force with primary mission for internal security, and the secondary military mission for helping the regular army to defend the country from foreign aggression. The Public Security forces played a significant role in the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese War.
