Norton College is a mixed secondary school, sixth form and specialist humanities college with academy status in Norton, North Yorkshire, England. There are approximately 780 children on roll. The school was inspected by Ofsted in November 2007 and received an 'outstanding' assessment.[1]
In May 2009 the school was named one of the most successful schools in the country. The school was named in the report, ‘Data driven school transformation’, published by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.[2]
At the beginning of 2011, the College was a redesignated it's 'Outstanding' status by Ofsted in a remote inspection, following a successful subject inspection in November 2010.
Academy Status
In May 2011, the College gained academy status under the multi-school model. The resulting trust has been named 'Evolution Schools Learning Trust.' Norton College has however, retained its name, and become the home of the Evolution Schools Learning Trust. A dip in performance and a critical Ofsted report meant the school had to respond quickly to a more rigorous inspection framework which focussed more explicitly on progress n English and maths .[3]
A "Good" School
The College was inspected in October 2013 and graded "Good" in all categories. The inspection team highlighted that the College had improved in all areas most notable around GCSE results. "GCSE results have improved significantly and the weakness in achievement at the last inspection has been overcome. Students now make good progress in English and mathematics." While was not yet outstanding the report identified the high aspirations shared by leaders and that the "staff share a strong sense of common purpose, loyalty and teamwork."
