"Not Today"
Song

"Not Today" is a single recorded by South Korean boy group BTS that was released on the album You Never Walk Alone. A Japanese version of the song was later on released in their album Face Yourself.[2]

Background and release

When the music video was released it garnered nearly eleven million views in twenty-four hours.[3]

Promotion

BTS promoted the Korean version of the song on various music programs in South Korea including Music Bank, Show! Music Core, Inkigayo, and M Countdown. A remix version was also promoted KBS 2017 Song Festival on December 29, 2017.[4]

Music Video

The music video is propelled by the songs stomp heavy rhythm. Throughout it BTS lead a crowd of black-clad, seemingly ninja-inspired, dancers who throw off their restricting garments at one point as if in protest in military-style formations, while the rapid fire dances are interspersed with scenes of the BTS members being chased and shot at.[1]

The music video was filmed by the crew GDW with choreography by Keone Madrid.[5]

Reception

Billboard described the single as propulsive synth-hip hop banger that calls for “all the underdogs in the world” to not give up and keep fighting. It seems to be a nod off to the groups early messages of anti-establishment, as shown in songs like "No More Dream" and "N.O.".[1] Digital Music News called it a high energy, explosive track with an elaborate dance and multiple backdrops.[6]

Composition

Not Today is in the key of A♭ major. It is 110 beats per minute and is 3:23 minutes long.[7] The lyrics talk about never giving up, encouraging people to rally together against government corruption and to break all invisible barriers that stop people from succeeding.[1]
