O'Connor is a surname of Irish origin, originally meaning Ó Conchobhair ("grandson/descendant of Conchobar"). A more modern Irish spelling is Ó Conchúir.

There were at least five unrelated Ó Conchobhair families originally, located in Derry, Sligo/Roscommon (Connachta), Offaly/Laoise (Uí Failghe), Clare (Corco Modhruadh) and Kerry (Ciarraige).

For the Connacht clan see O'Connor.
